Ward Environment Support Worker Childrens and Teenage Haematology & Oncology (L31, L32 & L33)

Are you passionate about making a difference every day? Were looking for an enthusiastic and caring Ward Environment Support Worker to join our friendly team across wards L31, L32 and L33, where we care for children and teenagers undergoing treatment for haematology and oncology conditions.

In this rewarding role, youll help create a safe, clean and welcoming environment that supports healing and comfort. From keeping patient and communal areas spotless to ensuring supplies are ready and infection control standards are met, youll play a key part in helping our young patients and their families feel at ease.

Youll work closely with nurses, doctors and support staff who are all dedicated to providing the best care possible. Every task you do helps make the wards brighter, safer and more supportive for those who need it most.

Main duties of the job

To work as a member of the clinical ward team carrying out the cleaning and the movement of patients, specimens & goods/consumables/drugs between wards and departments. To provide a range of direct or indirect supervised non-clinical support to the professional teams within designated clinical areas.

The role will be supportive in keeping the hospital environment, safe, clean and tidy. The provision of a high-quality support service, responding to patient bed discharge/equipment cleaning and or/ urgent patient equipment/specimen/blood transportation.

The job holder will work within designated clinical areas providing support to the multi-disciplinary teams. Duties will include answering phones, cleaning equipment, setting up equipment under supervision, ordering maintaining stock levels and any other general clinical duties required.

The job holder will meet, and greet patients, family or carers and provide family and carer support where asked to do so. The job holder will be a central point of communication between the department and medical physics to ensure equipment is returned, and repaired, and or serviced in a timely manner.

We care for children and young people with a range of non-malignant haematological disorders; Leeds is a Comprehensive Care Centre for Haemophilia and a Specialist Centre for Haemoglobinopathy.

  • Maths and English GCSE grades A-E or equivalent Level 1 Literacy or Numeracy
  • Ability to communicate both verbally in a tactful, compassionate and polite manner, providing reassurance where required, and non-verbally (reading and writing).
  • Ability to communicate and transmit information via telephone, radio & IT systems.
  • Willing to undergo training as required induction and on the job training as required to be able to perform the role.

Desirable

  • Literate and numerate
  • Health & Safety / COSHH / Moving & Handling training /awareness.
  • Customer Care Training.
  • Relevant occupational in-house cleaning.
