Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, proactive Childrens Nurse to co-ordinate and develop the Childrens Vascular Access service.

We are looking to recruit an individual with excellent organisational, networking and communication skills who has experience and enthusiasm to make a difference. Project management experience, leadership skills and a passion to educate and motivate individuals and teams to build and sustain new pathways for children who Vascular access and line care.

Excellent organisational and communication skills are key elements for this position together with enthusiasm to build and sustain a childrens lines service.

Main duties of the job

The role involves working with anaesthetists, surgeons, Interventional radiology, ACP for Childrens Surgery and nursing and management teams to ensure we have a sustainable Childrens vascular access service.

Working to develop and implement pathways and best practice for Children that require vascular access. The post holder will co-ordinate the service and work with the ACP for Childrens surgery to embed the processes for safe line assessment, planning, insertion and ongoing care.

The post holder will co-ordinate the data collection for vascular access in Children.

About us

The post holder will work closely with both Childrens Anaesthetists, surgical, interventional radiology and management teams, to ensure a co-ordinated Childrens vascular access service is delivered for all children who require a line.

The post holder will work closely with the ACP for Childrens surgery to develop this service and pathways.

Support will be provided by the matron, which includes preceptorship period, regular 1:1 meetings, team meetings, and appraisal for the upcoming year.

The post holder will be practising as an independent specialist clinical practitioner providing patient-centred and evidence-based clinical care, within an agreed scope of competence and practice. The jobholder will be responsible for co-ordinating the vascular access service for Children. The jobholder carries continuing responsibility for the assessment of care needs, the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care and the setting of standards of care.

The jobholder will provide specialist nursing care, treatment and advice to a specific patient group and will contribute to the development of the speciality service. The jobholder will ensure cost effective use of resources. The job holder will support the development of interdisciplinary and whole service working. As a role model they will promote the sharing of good practice and delivery of high quality, effective and efficient care. The job holder will provide training and education to staff groups, patients and families/carers.

The post holder will work in partnership with the multi-disciplinary team (MDT) to implement and improve the patient pathway and will be expected to develop new skills to further enhance the quality of the service delivered.
