Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 4 Assistant Psychologist to join the specialist Red Cell service at Leeds Teaching Hospital Trust. We are seeking a compassionate and motivated person to work with individuals and families affected by red cell disorders (e.g. Sickle Cell Disease and Thalassaemia) across the lifespan. The successful candidate will work alongside Clinical Psychology colleagues the role will include a range of clinical and research activities.

The advertised post will involve working within both the adult and paediatric services. Both are dynamic, reflective multidisciplinary teams who highly value the contribution that Clinical Psychology can offer. The post-holder will also benefit from close links with the wider psychology departments in adult and paediatric services. This is a 0.5-1 WTE full time 3 years-fixed term post, however we welcome applications from candidates interested in job sharing and part-time working arrangements.

Main duties of the job

The role offers varied opportunities to support with service delivery, including participation in MDT clinics, developing psychoeducational resources and screening tools for people living people living with Sickle Cell Disease or Thalassaemia and their families, assisting with delivering psychological interventions (with supervision from qualified staff), and administering cognitive assessments to people with Sickle Cell Disease who are at risk of developing/ are suspected to have experienced strokes. This role provides an excellent opportunity to work with a culturally diverse population across the life-span, and to develop skills working alongside a range of colleagues as a fully integrated member of the specialist MDT.

There will also be opportunities to develop skills in research, service audit/evaluation and providing teaching and training.

About us

Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust and Leeds Childrens Hospitals are large centres providing this specialist service across the region. The successful candidate will work as a fully integrated member of the MDT, as well as enjoying close links with the paediatric psychology team and clinical and health psychology adult team. These are large and friendly departments made up of made up of Clinical and Counselling Psychologists, Counsellors, Therapists and assistant psychologists.

In joining the Department you would have the opportunity to work alongside different professionals and gain some experience of different speciality areas, as well as receiving regular supervision from a qualified member of staff. In addition, there will be opportunities to participate in department-wide Special Interest Groups (SIGs), to contribute to other activities that support and enhance patient experience and support with ongoing digital developments.
