exciting opportunity has arisen to join the award-winning OWLS (Oncology and
Haematology Walk-in Liaison Service) at Leeds Childrens Hospital. Based across
the Childrens Haematology and Oncology Day Unit and Ward L31, OWLS provides
expert, holistic care for children and young people with malignant and
non-malignant blood conditions who present acutely unwell.
This
new, innovative service was recognised with the 'Patient Involvement in Safety'
award at the LTHT Patient Safety Conference 2024. The successful candidate will
join a supportive, forward-thinking team committed to improving care and
outcomes for patients and families.

Main duties of the job
As
a Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse Specialist, you will undertake and be
responsible for the clinical management and co-ordination of high quality,
safe care for patients who are acutely unwell with a haematology or oncology
condition. You will be responsible for triaging the patients, both over the
phone and when they attend the unit for assessment. You will follow up
patients who have been assessed by the team within 24 hours. You will liaise
regularly with other agencies in health, social care and education and work
as part of a cohesive multidisciplinary team. You will support training,
education and staff/service development across the unit. This is a
particularly exciting time, where you will help the management team to
implement new ways of working across the wards and improve patient safety and
experience. The OWLS service is a team of nurses who cover 24 hours a day, 7
days a week.
