Job summary

We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic dietitian to join our Childrens Dietetic Team to provide Nutrition and Dietetic support within the Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia (PCD) and Cystic Fibrosis (CF) services.

Leeds Childrens Hospital has been commissioned by NHS England to provide a regional annual review and support service for the management of children with PCD. The post holder will be the lead dietitian for this service. You will therefore be required to travel with the Paediatric PCD team to clinics across the North of England to support paediatric dietitians in the network clinics. The aim is to collaborate and support the development of a paediatric Northern PCD network with close links to the adult service.

You will also be expected to assist the lead dietitian in the delivery of the CF Paediatric service.

The role is Monday -Friday.

Main duties of the job

PCD service

Lead dietitian for the paediatric PCD service, providing annual clinical review for children with PCD and additional support where required.

Key relationships will be with the Multidisciplinary team at both Leeds and the regional hospitals.

Travel with the Paediatric PCD team to annual clinics across the North of England to support the local paediatric dietitians in the network clinics will be expected.

Children across the North of England are seen annually by the PCD management multi-disciplinary team at their local hospital. You will therefore be required to travel with the team for specific annual assessment clinic dates. Travel frequency is likely to be approximately twice per month.

As one of four commissioned services, participation in service development and audit is required.

Liaison with the adult PCD service.

Advice to in-patients and out-patients, their parents and carers within the PCD service.

CF service

Assist the lead dietitian in the delivery of the CF Paediatric service in Leeds.

Respiratory and general medicine

There is also the expectation that the post holder will gain experience in respiratory and general medicine, working alongside another B6, to provide cover for this service.

The post holder will be expected to demonstrate initiative in assisting and supporting the senior specialist dietitians and the clinical dietetic manager in the day-to-day management of the department.

Over 80% of the services it delivers are specialist including cancer treatment, transplantation and congenital heart surgery. Other specialities also include childrens medicine and surgery, gastroenterology, cystic fibrosis, respiratory medicine, primary ciliary dyskinesia, hepatobiliary services, renal medicine, neurosciences, paediatric critical care, neonatal services, oncology and haematology, endocrinology, rheumatology, cardiac services, allergy, immunology and infectious diseases and diabetes. We also provide services for the children of Leeds, across the Yorkshire and Humber Region and in some cases further afield.

You will be working as part of specialist PCD and CF teams, where support and training will be provided.

You will also be part of the larger paediatric dietetic team consisting of approximately 32 dietitians.
