Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a nurse to join our team of Childrens Rheumatology Nurse Specialists (CNS).
Childrens Rheumatology serves a population of 600,000 children in the North of England. We manage around 750 follow-up inflammatory patients (2024) a year. In addition to providing a secondary and tertiary service to the children living in the area, we see children and young people from North and West Yorkshire, as well as parts of South Yorkshire. One of the strongest features of our service is leading a well-established North and West Yorkshire Paediatric Rheumatology clinical network which provides Paediatric Rheumatology cover via a shared-care system with outreach clinics to Airedale, Doncaster, Harrogate, York & Scarborough Hospitals.
Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA) is the most common condition that is looked after long-term by the multi-disciplinary Paediatric Rheumatology team (MDT), which includes CNSs, Doctors, Youth Worker, Psychologist, Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists.
JIA has an incidence very similar to that of Diabetes Mellitus in children (1 in 1000 children). We also look after several rarer inflammatory conditions including systemic lupus erythematosus, juvenile dermatomyositis, scleroderma, periodic fevers, systemic sclerosis, uveitis and vasculitides.
