Job summary
An
exciting opportunity has arisen for a full-time permanent Band 6 on the CAT
unit.
The
successful candidates will be enthusiastic, highly motivated, and have the
required skills to Triage and VET to ensure
the best patient centred care and experience as the front door service
to the Childrens Hospital.
The
CAT unit is a dynamic service assessing and treating children and young people
from birth to 16 who require the expertise of the general paediatric
medical/surgical teams having been referred from their GP or from Paediatric
Emergency Department.
The
role will involve providing high quality direct patient care including a vet
and Triage process for children and young people ensuring patient safety is
paramount and coordinating the activity throughout the unit working closely
with the medical team.
The
role will also involve supporting the band 7 with the day-to-day management of
the unit including attendance management, management of the off duty, audits,
change management and being an effective leader and role model for the junior
and multi- disciplinary team.

Main duties of the job
The
main duties will involve ensuring the patients are vetted and Triaged in the
appropriate timeframes. Managing their own patient workload in addition to
leading and co- ordinating the unit on a shift-by-shift basis working
collaboratively with the MDT and closely with the PFC
The
candidate will be expected to be involved in audits, attendance management,
change management and supporting the band 7 in the day-to-day management of the
ward.

Job responsibilities
The
jobholder will play an essential role assisting the Senior Sister/Charge
Nurse with the 24 hour continuing
responsibility for the effective and efficient management of the ward /
department. They will contribute to the
provision of professional, clinical, managerial leadership and supervision for
the nursing team. The jobholder is
responsible for helping to develop and maintain a ward or departments
philosophy that has the patient at the centre of compassionate safe and quality
care delivery. By assisting with
managing the administrative and financial aspects of the ward, the jobholder
will support the cost effective use of resources.
As
an experienced nurse the jobholder will assist in co-ordinating activities on
the ward or department ensuring effective communication is maintained at all
times, providing support to qualified and unqualified nurses within the
ward/dept. He/she will play a key role
in the assessment of patient care needs and the development, implementation and
evaluation of programmes of care.
The
jobholder will act as a role model, promoting quality evidence-based practice,
developing the nursing team and ensuring effective management of the
ward/department in the absence of the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse.
The
jobholder must comply with the wearing of PPE as appropriate to the clinical
situation - this may involve wearing face masks for a considerable length of
time.
