Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Childrens Liver CNS service for an experienced nurse to take a special interest in the surgical hepatobiliary patients whilst working within the wider Liver CNS team. This role will offer a varied caseload. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting consultant-led clinics as well as further developing nurse led services within the liver service. The post holder will provide specialist care and training, will hold responsibility for the management of a defined caseload and will have an integral role in service development. The conditions managed by the Hepatobiliary teams both medical and surgical have a huge impact on the childs and familys lives. Many patients have chronic conditions and are often managed with long-term medications. Patients and their families require a high level of support. The established Liver CNS team will offer support and training for the successful candidate in addition to educational opportunities offered by the consultant team and wider MDT. This is an excellent opportunity for a confident childrens nurse who has significant clinical experience in caring for children and young people with acute and chronic Liver conditions and who is highly motivated to further develop their knowledge and skills within these specialties.

The ability to work autonomously is an essential requirement for this post.

Main duties of the job

The jobholder will work within a small team of Nurse Specialists responsible to the Childrens Liver Team Leader.

Responsibilities will include the management of a shared caseload aged 0 16 years both as inpatients in Leeds and offering a liaison role within the wider region Managing and attending clinics and inpatient wards as required, telephone support, ordering blood tests and managing results, updating information literature, written referrals to regional Childrens Community Nursing Teams, liaising with MDT and other professionals, supporting the transition service within the liver service, training, co-ordination and support for oral medications.

The job holder will be expected to work in partnership with the team leader, Consultant, and other MDT members to implement evidence-based, patient focused practice. There will be opportunity for further development, including visits to other specialist centres.Commitment to Non-Medical Prescribing training is desirable.

Childrens Liver service is a busy service with an interesting & varied caseload, often involving management of extremely rare conditions; therefore, the role requires a proactive individual with strong leadership and communication skills.

We pride ourselves in supporting professional development within the team as well as ongoing clinical supervision and mentorship which will be provided by the Band 7 CNS.
