Job summary
An
exciting opportunity has become available for an experienced, enthusiastic
and motivated paediatric nurse to lead the development of the paediatric
allergy service at the Leeds Childrens Hospital. Paediatric allergy is a
very busy service and offers numerous consultant-led and nurse-led clinics
per week. The post holder will lead a friendly team of paediatric allergy
nurses and will be a crucial member of the multi-disciplinary team providing
care to children with complex allergic diseases (e.g. food allergy, allergic
rhinitis, eczema, asthma, medication/latex allergy).
Strategically
the post holder will actively lead on setting standards of care, service
development, and change management. The successful candidate will need to continually
work to further develop and improve the Leeds Paediatric Allergy service and
to confidently advocate for service improvement initiatives within the
Childrens CSU. This role requires a
proactive individual with strong leadership skills who is comfortable working
independently and autonomously.
Main duties of the job
The
successful candidate will need to demonstrate that they are a strong and
credible source of clinical knowledge in order to support the development of
the nursing team and wider multi-disciplinary team. They will be responsible
for delivering independent nurse-led clinics, undertaking clinical
assessments, and making treatment decisions using advanced clinical knowledge
and experience. A non-medical prescribing qualification (or willingness to
obtain) is integral for the role as prescribing for patients within the
paediatric allergy service is required daily.
The post holder will lead on the coordination and delivery of food/medication
challenges, coordinate the delivery of immunotherapy treatment, and take an
active role in allergy-related research.
The
Team Leader assumes overall oversight and responsibility for ensuring
appropriate nursing support is available for consultant-led allergy clinics
and for delivering food/medication challenges in an independent nurse-run
clinical area. The post holder will
line manage a team of paediatric allergy nurses, including mentoring and
supporting staff with their professional development.
The
service operates predominantly Monday to Friday with clinical activity being
delivered from 0730-1700. Clinics are delivered at both the Leeds General
Infirmary and Wharfedale Hospital on a weekly basis so a full driving
license/car driver or access to private transportation is essential for this
role.
