Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust has an opportunity for an enthusiastic, dynamic, and highly motivated individual to join the neuro-oncology/neurosciences physiotherapy team working as a Physiotherapy Assistant Practitioner. This is a fast paced, specialised post which will involve you working with patients following brain and spinal tumour resection, ENT and maxillofacial surgery and acute neurosurgery. It will also involve patients who have a palliative diagnosis and those at end of life, which can be challenging but is managed within a supportive team environment.
You will be expected to manage your own caseload, perform new patient assessments, and formulate appropriate discharge plans to support patient flow. You will have support from qualified staff with expert skills in palliative care and complex rehabilitation and work alongside an experienced multiprofessional team. Applicants must be committed to high quality care and be able to give examples of collaborative working.
Main duties of the job
You will be responsible for a designated caseload of inpatients and to organise this efficiently and effectively linked to your own and team priorities. You will undertake specifically delegated comprehensive assessments of patients including those with complex needs and carry out and develop treatment/rehabilitation programmes with patients in conjunction with other members of the multidisciplinary team.
You will have the opportunity to provide advice and teaching to patients, relatives, carers etc, with support, to ensure a coordinated approach to patient care. Patients from other specialities may be allocated to our bed base, these may be patients with stroke, neurology, spinal and orthopaedic pathologies. You will be jointly involved in treating and supporting rehabilitation with a qualified physiotherapist.
You will lead the maintenance of stock and equipment including reordering, carry out data entry and use IT skills, including timely documentation of patient interventions.
