An exciting opportunity has become available for three Assistant Psychologists (Band 4) to join the Department of Clinical and Health Psychology Services in Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. As a service we are committed to increasing representation within psychological professions, as well as increasing the accessibility of psychological professions for those who are currently under-represented in clinical psychology. These posts are being advertised with external funding from Health Education England (HEE) to provide paid opportunities for individuals from ethnic minority groups, socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds and/or with caring responsibilities.
During the application process, you will be asked about how you meet the criteria stated above. We ask that you include a brief statement on this within your application, which will be used as part of the shortlisting process.
The posts are offered on a temporary contract for five months, full time. At the point of recruitment, we would be flexible in offering full-time or part-time posts to support applicants in other paid employment roles and/or with caring responsibilities.
Main duties of the job
The roles will involve duties specific to the service and may include:
Providing structured and semi-structured assessments
Providing short term structured interventions for patients with less complex psychological needs, under the supervision of a Clinical Psychologist
Supporting service evaluations as well as research-related activities
Co-facilitating psychological group interventions under the supervision of a Clinical Psychologist
Supporting the input of Clinical Psychologists within multidisciplinary teams (MDT)
The successful candidates will be able to gain a good understanding of the role of Clinical Psychologists within Clinical and Health Psychology, with many opportunities to shadow and observe qualified Clinical Psychologists. They will be provided with training and opportunities for continuing professional development (CPD). They will be able to network with other Assistant Psychologists and be given opportunities to attend Special Interest Groups related to specific therapeutic models.
About us
The successful candidates will be based at our large Department of Clinical and Health Psychology within Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust. The Adult Therapies department is split into four sections, Neuropsychology, Medicine (which includes long-term conditions such as cardiology, renal, pain etc.), Surgical and Rehabilitation (covering Major Trauma, Plastic surgery and Oncology) and Staff Psychological Support. The successful applicants will be able to express a preference of which speciality in which they would prefer to work.
