Job summary

Are you an enthusiastic dietitian, with excellent communication and team working skills, looking to work in the interesting area of renal dietetics? Then this job could be for you.

We are pleased to advertise two full-time and part-time (0.5wte) Specialist Dietitian (Band 6) posts, to work within our friendly Renal Dietetic Team, which is growing and has a great skill mix.

The successful applicant will be supported to develop the knowledge and skills required to provide care to patients all stages of kidney disease. You will work collaboratively with the MDT ensuring the best care for our patients.

The Leeds Renal Service is a sub-regional transplant centre and has 8 haemodialysis units across West Yorkshire. Being a car driver would be an advantage for this post.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will provide dietetic care to patients with acute and chronic kidney disease, having opportunities to cover the both the acute inpatient and outpatient service which includes the low clearance, haemodialysis, and transplant service.

You will provide evidenced based advice to patients, carers and clinicians on the provision of nutrition support and therapeutic diets for patients with kidney disease. This will involve nutritional diagnosis, based on a detailed clinical and dietary assessment and the development of treatment plans, incorporating patient-centred goals, whilst ensuring safe and acceptable biochemical parameters. You will work collaboratively as a key member of the MDT and will be involved in education of students and healthcare professionals.

9. PRINCIPAL DUTIES & AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

9.1.4 Responsible for providing highly specialised dietary advice within an in-patient and out-patient setting, to patients in a distinct specialist area e.g., advice to renal dialysis patients on calcium and phosphate management, oncology patients on enteral feeding.

9.1.5 Communicate the nutrition and dietary treatment of patients to healthcare staff, other professionals, and patient carers. This may involve co-ordinating nutritional care with other trusts and centres outside the Trust.

9.1.6 Undertake comprehensive assessments of patients with diverse and complex nutritional issues where investigative and analytical skills are required to formulate accurate treatment plans.

9.1.7 Responsible for providing relevant dietary advice within an in-patient an out-patient setting in verbal and written forms in a format which is understood by patients and carers.

9.1.8 Responsible for developing and maintaining an agreed level of expertise by updating own specialised clinical knowledge and skills through attendance at post-graduate courses, clinical updates, and in-service training.

9.1.9 Participate in the appraisal process as an appraisee and develop a strategy for personal and continuous professional development, encompassing a portfolio-based assessment in line with national legislation.
