Job summary

Are you a skilled, resourceful and dynamic Speech and Language Therapist with an interest in Head and Neck Cancer and ENT, looking to extend your skill set within a supportive professional environment? A unique opportunity has arisen for a band 6 role within the Adult Speech and Language Therapy team at Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust. We are looking to recruit a band 6 post-holder to fulfil this exciting role.

The post holder will join a highly supportive and innovative Speech and Language Therapy Service comprising 50+ wte SLTs serving ENT, Maxillofacial Surgery, Head and Neck, Oncology, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Brain & CNS, General Med/Elderly, Respiratory, Outpatients, Paediatric, Critical Care, Stroke and Cleft teams.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be part of the Speech and Language Therapy team within the specialist Head and Neck Cancer and ENT Teams at Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust. This is a dynamic post that requires the post holder to work closely within the multi-disciplinary teams, treating a variety of patients from different specialities such as ENT, Maxillo Facial Surgery, Plastic Surgery and Oncology. The post will incorporate both inpatient and outpatient work in a variety of clinical settings delivered to local and regional patients. The post holder will be required to work with patients with communication, swallowing and voice disorders related to Head and Neck Cancer diagnoses and other benign ENT conditions.

The post will involve flexible working and you will be included in bank holiday working rotas.

Applicants must have current HCPC registration and be able to show evidence of CPD. This post requires an Enhanced DBS check. If necessary adjustments can be considered in accordance with the Equality Act 2010.

  • Degree in Speech and Language Therapy or equivalent Health Professions Council Registration

Desirable

  • Registered Member of Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists

  • Able to fulfil Occupational Health requirements for the post (with reasonable adjustments if necessary), including clearance on blood borne viruses in compliance with Trust Policy

Experience

  • Post Graduate RCSLT accredited dysphagia course or equivalent
  • Significant post-graduate clinical experience in the assessment and management of patients with complex communication and swallowing disorders.
  • Experience working within a hospital setting.
  • Working effectively in a multidisciplinary team.

Desirable

  • Experience in the fields of head and neck cancer and/or ENT
  • Experience in instrumental assessment of dysphagia.
