Job summary

An exciting opportunity to lead and co-ordinate the research activity for Physiotherapy within Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust has arisen. The successful candidate will act as a role model to the physiotherapy team promoting quality evidence-based practice, developing the physiotherapy team research capabilities and activities, contributing to the effective management of research activity across all teams and the strategic planning and development of the physiotherapy service to integrate the research strategy into clinical practice across the profession. This is a pivotal role in the delivery of the Research Strategy for the profession and to support the organisations 7Cs.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will take the lead for research activities and projects within the Profession, with the ability to demonstrate a high standard of clinical reasoning, with an excellent understanding of the clinical research priorities and opportunities for the profession, LTHT physiotherapy staff and patients.

The professional lead role requires the individual to support all areas of physiotherapy and currently our clinical services are based at Leeds General Infirmary, St James Hospital and Chapel Allerton Hospital and the post holder would be expected to work flexibly as required by service need

9. PRINCIPAL DUTIES & AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

Clinical

To hold a clinical Physiotherapy role that provides the post holder good experience of clinical workload across the Physiotherapy service and needs of the service for relevant research topics and requirements of the service, patients, and staff.

Education and Training

To clearly convey complex information through spontaneous and planned advice, teaching and instruction to relatives, carers and other professionals, to promote understanding of the aims of physiotherapy, and to ensure a consistent approach to research that improves patient care.

To be an active member of the in-service training programme through attendance and delivery of presentations and training sessions relevant to this advanced clinical role at staff meetings, tutorials, training sessions in house and by attending external courses and practising reflective practice.

To lead relevant research training for qualified and unqualified physiotherapy staff and students.

Professional and Managerial

To lead research related activities and continuously improve the research infra-structure within the Physiotherapy department. To represent Physiotherapy and the AHPs within LTHT for research related activities.

To liaise closely with the Head of Physiotherapy, Clinical Physiotherapy Managers and other AHP heads of professions on research related activity.

Maintain and develop in depth specialist knowledge of evidence-based practice in this clinical field.

Demonstrate the ability to prioritise, organise, allocate and delegate work appropriately to other members of staff to teach, supervise and assess qualified, unqualified staff and students in accordance with Trust policies and procedures

As a senior member of the clinical team you will be required to ensure that designated staff implement policy and service development changes.

Frequently throughout the day there will be a requirement to undertake moderate physical activity lasting approximately 30 60 minutes e.g. treatment sessions involving transferring, manoeuvring, mobilising patients.

Physiotherapists are required to have highly developed physical skills e.g. dexterity, co-ordination and palpatory skills in order to facilitate the assessment and manual treatment of individual patients.

Therapeutic treatment sessions may require this post holder to undertake moving and handling tasks with patients where mechanical aids are not practical or appropriate.
