JOB
PURPOSE
The jobholder will act as a role
model to the physiotherapy team promoting quality evidence-based practice,
developing the physiotherapy team research capabilities and activities,
contributing to the effective management of research activity across all
teams and the strategic planning and development of the physiotherapy service
to integrate the research strategy into clinical practice across the
profession.
The post holder will take the lead
for research activities and projects within the Profession, as a major job
requirement (i.e. 20% per week

An understanding of the structure
and working practices of this organisation with regard to the provision of
high-quality physiotherapy services to this specialist area.

of and be guided by general health, organisational and broad occupational
policies e.g. those set by the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy, the Health
Professions Council and the National Institute for Clinical Excellence with
experience of interpretation and implementation within the clinical area.
9. PRINCIPAL DUTIES & AREAS OF
RESPONSIBILITY
Clinical
To
hold a clinical Physiotherapy role that provides the post holder good
experience of clinical workload across the Physiotherapy service and needs of
the service for relevant research topics and requirements of the service,
patients, and staff.
Education
and Training
To clearly convey complex
information through spontaneous and planned advice, teaching and instruction
to relatives, carers and other professionals, to promote understanding of the
aims of physiotherapy, and to ensure a consistent approach to research that
improves patient care.
To be an active member of the
in-service training programme through attendance and delivery of
presentations and training sessions relevant to this advanced clinical role
at staff meetings, tutorials, training sessions in house and by attending
external courses and practising reflective practice.
To lead relevant research training
for qualified and unqualified physiotherapy staff and students.
Professional
and Managerial
To lead research related activities
and continuously improve the research infra-structure within the
Physiotherapy department. To represent Physiotherapy and the AHPs within
LTHT for research related activities.
To liaise closely with the Head of
Physiotherapy, Clinical Physiotherapy Managers and other AHP heads of
professions on research related activity.
Maintain and develop in depth
specialist knowledge of evidence-based practice in this clinical field.
Demonstrate the ability to
prioritise, organise, allocate and delegate work appropriately to other
members of staff to teach, supervise and assess qualified, unqualified staff
and students in accordance with Trust policies and procedures
As a senior member of the clinical
team you will be required to ensure that designated staff implement policy
and service development changes.
To be responsible for maintaining
own competency to practice through Continued Professional Development
activities and maintain a portfolio which reflects your own personal
development.
To communicate effectively and work
collaboratively with medical, nursing and therapy colleagues to ensure
delivery of co-ordinated multidisciplinary research.
To have a support role in the staff
appraisal scheme as an appraiser and be responsible for complying with your
own agreed personal development programmes to meet set knowledge and
competencies.
To undertake the measurement and
evaluation of your work and current practices using projects, audit and
outcome measures, either individually or as lead of the research team. Make recommendations for changes to
practice that may impact on service delivery, business planning or strategic
reviews.
To demonstrate a sound
understanding of Clinical Governance and Risk Management and apply to work
situation.
To maintain own continuing
professional development (CPD) by keeping abreast of any new trends and
developments and incorporate them into the work of the Physiotherapy service.
To participate in working parties
developing policies within the organisation which will impact on staff and
service users.
To assist the CSM/CPM in developing
the strategic and operational management of the physiotherapy service
provided to this specialist area.
To regularly undertake the
collection and collation of data for use in service audit and research
projects. To manage and undertake
research into specific areas of clinical practice and service delivery using
a range of research methodologies as part of multidisciplinary team audit and
departmental research initiatives making recommendations for change as
appropriate.
To work in an environment where the
work patterns may be disrupted by frequent demands from patients, clinical
staff, students and any emergency situations arising.
Organisational
To be responsible for a designated
area of work, as agreed with the Head of Physiotherapy and to plan and
organise efficiently and effectively service provision to this area.
To decide daily the priorities for
own work. This will include skilfully
and flexibly planning patient related and professional demands e.g. training,
clinical supervision, meetings and patient care to ensure that priorities
remain in accordance with the section as a whole.
To maintain accurate,
comprehensive, and up-to-date documentation, in line with legal and
departmental requirements, and communicate strategy, objectives, work in
flow, results and recommendations to the appropriate disciplines in the form
of verbal/written reports/letters/performance boards/action trackers.
To be actively involved in the
collection of appropriate data and statistics for the use of the department
and provide analyses reports as required.
To be aware of Health and Safety
aspects of your work and implement any policies, which may be required to
improve the management of risk in the work area, including your prompt
recording and reporting of accidents and ensuring the safe use of equipment.
To comply with national,
organisational, and departmental policies, procedures, and guidelines. To be involved in the reviewing, updating
and development as appropriate including those policies, procedures and
guidelines that will impact beyond your immediate department and/or
profession.
To undertake any other duties that
might be considered appropriate by the Clinical Physiotherapy Manager or the
Head of Physiotherapy.

11. SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS
i)
PHYSICAL EFFORT
Frequently
throughout the day there will be a requirement to undertake moderate physical
activity lasting approximately 30 60 minutes e.g. treatment sessions
involving transferring, manoeuvring, mobilising patients.
Physiotherapists
are required to have highly developed physical skills e.g. dexterity,
co-ordination and palpatory skills in order to facilitate the assessment and
manual treatment of individual patients.
Therapeutic
treatment sessions may require this post holder to undertake moving and
handling tasks with patients where mechanical aids are not practical or
appropriate.
