Job summary

Do you have a passion for Acute Medicine and Oncology Inpatients? Are you ready to make a commitment to a diverse and complex group of patients?

The Acute Medicine and Oncology Physiotherapy Team in Leeds Teaching Hospitals are looking to recruit a Band 6 specialist physiotherapist to provide high quality rehabilitation for their diverse caseload of inpatients.

We are looking for a dedicated individual to join us and work with the established team on their long-term strategy and objectives as well as providing high quality Physiotherapy for this cohort of patients.

Main duties of the job

The post holder would support the existing band 7 staff in the coordination of the acute rehabilitation of the complex patient caseload on Acute Medicine and Oncology. It is essential they have the breadth of knowledge and experience needed to pragmatically manage this caseload, which includes many patients with neurological diagnoses.

In addition, clinical duties will involve supporting the team and wider MDT to maintain optimum patient flow with) timely and safe discharging of patients from hospital into appropriate community pathways. Also, the post holder must demonstrate the ability to make difficult decisions about which patients are suitable for rehabilitation pathways.

There are also ample, well supported, opportunities to develop skills in audit and service improvement. We currently have several exciting and stimulating projects running.

These are permanent posts but internal candidates seeking secondment opportunities will also be welcomed.

To undertake the comprehensive assessment and treatment of patients including those with diverse / complex / multi pathological presentation. This will necessitate the use of investigative and analytical skills to formulate an accurate diagnosis and treatment from a range of options.

Using investigative and analytical skills to formulate individualised management and treatment plans including the development of comprehensive discharge plans.

To accept clinical responsibility for a designated caseload of patients and to organise this effectively and efficiently with regard to clinical priorities and use of time.

To demonstrate dexterity, co-ordination and palpatory skills in the assessment and manual treatment of patients.

To develop and deliver the physiotherapy element of the rehabilitation programme and on occasion to deliver some elements normally undertaken by nursing or occupational therapy colleagues.

Use a range of verbal and non-verbal communication tools to communicate effectively with patients to progress treatment and rehabilitation programmes. This will include patients who may have difficulties in understanding or communicating.
