Job summary
We are seeking an experienced, dynamic, and
highly motivated Band 7 Nurse Specialist to lead the Prostate Cancer Clinical
Nurse Specialist (CNS) team. This is a pivotal leadership role within the
urology cancer pathway, providing expert clinical guidance, professional
leadership, and strategic oversight to ensure the delivery of high-quality,
patient-centred care. The successful candidate will work autonomously and
collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team, overseeing complex case
management, service development, and pathway coordination from diagnosis
through treatment and follow-up. They will provide advanced clinical expertise,
support service improvement initiatives, supervise and develop junior team
members, and ensure safe, effective, and compassionate care for patients
throughout their prostate cancer journey.
Main duties of the job
The
post holder will provide visible, compassionate, and professional leadership to
the Prostate Cancer CNS team, ensuring the delivery of a high-quality,
evidence-based service across the cancer pathway. They will hold clinical
responsibility for patients with complex prostate cancer needs, offering
advanced assessment, advice, and support from diagnosis through treatment,
survivorship, and where appropriate, palliative care.
The
role includes overseeing pathway coordination, leading nurse-led clinics and
telephone follow-up services, managing clinical risk, and ensuring timely
triage of referrals and queries. The post holder will work in close
collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to optimise patient outcomes,
contribute to service development and audit, support workforce planning, and
provide supervision, mentorship, and appraisal for CNS team members. They will
also lead on quality improvement initiatives, ensure compliance with national
standards and targets, and act as a key professional resource for patients,
carers, and colleagues.
The
jobholder will assist in the overall implementation and evaluation of care as
part of the multi professional team. The jobholder is expected to plan,
implement, deliver and maintain high standards of patient care. The jobholder
