We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated registered nurse or allied health professional with at least 2 years post qualifying experience and 12 months endoscopy experience. You will have a knowledge of endoscopy pathways and be able to demonstrate your understanding of the lower GI nurse led pathway. The role of the Clinical nurse specialist within this team is to triage patients referred directly from primary care. The post holder will need to understand the different teams within endoscopy and the wider Colorectal and gastro services. Expected to work with primary care and engage with MDT to ensure a smooth pathway for patients through endoscopy services. Work in a manner that provides a positive patient experience and minimises delays. If you have excellent communication skills and are passionate about delivering patient centred care, are able to remain self-motivated and take responsibility for your clinical decision making we would like to hear from you.

Main duties of the job

As a band 6 on the endoscopy 2ww upper and lower GI team you will be expected to undertake the following tasks.

Gain an understanding of the referral process and pathway and review complex patients for triaging.

Referring for other diagnostic tests.

Reviewing and calling patients on the pathway

Prescribing prep if a qualified prescriber.

Dealing with clinical escalations from Pre assessment team.

Emails and associated calls to patients with symptoms.

Supporting Mr Saunders in urgent unplanned communication to patients and associated admissions or care arrangements.

Communication with patients and discharge from the pathway if appropriate or making arrangements for surveillance monitoring.

Re requesting new referrals due to exclusion value or site check, post polypectomy.

Referral to Complex polyp MDT, IBD Team or Endoscopy complex patient service.

Work within scope of practice as a CNS and escalate or seek advice from colleagues or clinical endoscopists when necessary.
