An exciting opportunity has arisen for a seconded Band 6 Junior Sister/Charge Nurse to come and join our team on the Surgical Assessment Unit (SAU) at St Jamess University Hospital within the Abdominal Medicine and Surgery CSU. We currently have a very dynamic, passionate team who are striving to provide high quality care to acute patients requiring urgent surgical/gastroenterology and urology assessments/interventions. Main duties of the job

You will have excellent communication and leadership skills, and the ability to demonstrate recent change management and implementation. You will be supporting the Band 7 Senior Sister to lead the team working on SAU and help to promote a positive working environment that provides the best care possible for the patients. You will help to lead on aspects of patient safety, supporting staff and lots of improvement work that is currently underway on SAU. Previous experience at Band 6 would be an advantage, but it is also an opportunity for a Band 5 to further develop their career and leadership skills. You must demonstrate effective organizational skills and an ability to remain calm under pressure, with a can do attitude, acting as a positive role model.

About us

SAU is a fast-paced acute assessment area caring for acute admissions within the General Surgical, Urology, Colorectal and Gastroenterology specialties. We assess patients directly from ED and PCAL GP line. In addition to SAU, you will also work on the Ambulatory Surgical Centre (ASC) where patients are seen directly by a consultant following a referral from the GP. Effective service delivery requires staff to be flexible and be able to work full rotating shift patterns. Candidates should have current NMC registration and extensive experience at Band 5. Management experience is desirable but not essential. If you feel that you have the correct skills and attitude for this post, please complete an application or contact the Band 7 Senior Sister for more details.
