Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Patient Flow Team for a Full time Bed Manager (Band 6 RN) who has an interest in the flow of patients within a busy acute NHS Trust.
AMS is a large CSU within St James Hospital comprising a dedicated surgical assessment unit and 12 in patient wards .We are a regional centre for urology, colorectal, gastroenterology, upper GI, HPB and renal services, as well as being responsible for the Leeds Liver Unit, one of a handful across the country.
As a team we are proud of our record in supporting both our emergency and elective flow for the organisation making sure those patients see speciality surgeons as soon as possible and so those patients get the timely care and procedures they need.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will need to have an understanding of the A&E government targets and current issues that can affect the timely flow of patients through the hospital
The post holder will assist in the efficient and effective management of bed resources within the Trust. The provision of an effective service encompassing all Directorates is essential to successful patient flow across the Trust.
Good communication and organisational skills are essential to this role. The ideal candidates will have the ability to deliver performance targets, identify and implement any improvements in processes and practices, as well as the ability to train, develop and motivate staff.
The successful candidate will be expected to be an enthusiastic member of the team, making a valuable contribution to the performance of the service. They should have the ability to maintain an open and supportive relationship with their team, encouraging professional development and demonstrating flexibility within the role.
About us
You will be joining an experienced team who manage all acute and elective patient flow throughout the AMS CSU, a CSU that comprises 12 inpatient wards, endoscopy and a dedicated assessment unit. This job can be highly rewarding and essential to the safe and effective delivery of the care that the AMS core specialities (gastroenterology, urology, hepatology, upper GI, renal, colorectal and both acute and general surgery) are able to provide.
A large percentage of AMS patients will be assessed and admitted through the surgical assessment unit, therefore close working with and support of JSAU is to be expected.
