Job summary

We are looking for 1 new full time Medical Secretary to join the Abdominal Medicine and Surgery CSU based at St James University Hospital.

The role will be ideal for somebody who is looking to expand on their experience within a healthcare setting. We are a surgical CSU and oversee a cohort of patients with complex pathways, therefore liaising with a range of medical personnel will be vital to the role.

The post-holder will be required to attend to duties such as typing of correspondence, dealing with complex patient queries, sorting post for the consultants and validating waiting lists.

The successful candidate will have a can-do attitude and will take a proactive approach to working within one of the busiest CSUs within the trust. Applicants will also have fantastic organisational and time management skills as well as being able to multi-task and prioritise workloads accordingly. The environment in which we operate is very fast paced and swift turnaround times are crucial.

Previous administrative experience is essential for this role as is a good standard of knowledge around basic IT systems such as Microsoft Office packages and email systems as well as more complex systems such as PAS, PPM and Epro.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide a comprehensive secretarial service to the HPB Liver team. They will support processes to sustain the departments practice through administrative protocols, processes and procedures in line with service needs. They must be able to communicate sensitively and effectively with a wide range of people including patients, medical staff and colleagues. The secretary may be required to cover for colleagues during absence and work flexible hours when necessary.
