B7 Senior Sister/Charge Nurse /Team Leader- Endoscopy Bexley

The Endoscopy Service is looking for an enthusiastic, motivated individual to take on the challenge of Senior Sister /Charge Nurse /Team Leader within our Endoscopy Unit in Bexley Wing at SJUH. The role is an exciting opportunity to lead our team of dedicated nurses delivering acute and complex care, to both inpatients and outpatients. We are looking for a highly motivated, dynamic individual to lead the Unit, and enable and empower the team. Strong leadership and performance management is an integral aspect of this Band 7 role with patient experience and patient safety underpinning all care delivery. You will be responsible for the co-ordination of an acute department on a daily basis, managing the nursing establishment, attendance, appraisals, training and development, encouraging an environment of empowerment and facilitating change. You will be expected to provide assurance that safety and governance standards are met and sustained for every patient, every time. Experience in Endoscopy is desirable, and candidates are required to have a minimum of 6 months experience of team leading at B6 level.

Main duties of the job

Leadership

Provide leadership to the clinical team

Support and inspire staff to provide efficient, effective, safe, quality care to patients

Deliver a positive patient experience

Promote the building of effective teams and collaboration between teams.

Anticipate problems and take preventative or mitigating actions, or have contingency plans available

Work with Matron to lead the development of ward/department nursing practice, reflecting the Clinical Service Unit and Trust business plans

Delegate and empower staff whilst maintaining overall, continuing responsibility and accountability.

Line manage the nursing team, including individual and team performance, attendance, management and workforce planning

Ensure the effective deployment of staff is mapped against the flow of patients to provide safe and effective care.

Investigate and respond to accidents, complaints, untoward incidents and other significant events.

Raise and respond to concerns with regards to risk, danger, malpractice or wrongdoing by following the LTHT whistle blowing policy and supporting processes.

Deputise for Matron in their absence.

The Jobholder will carry 24 hour continuing responsibility for the effective and efficient management of the department. They will provide professional, clinical, managerial leadership and supervision for the nursing team. The jobholder is responsible for developing and maintaining a ward or departments philosophy that has the patient at the centre of compassionate safe and quality care delivery. Through managing the administrative and financial aspects of the ward, the jobholder will ensure cost effective use of resources. This post is full time fixed term position and is an excellent opportunity for an individual looking to develop and progress into a managerial role.

JOB PURPOSE/SUMMARY

The jobholder will work closely with the multidisciplinary team. They will liaise with wards and departments in order to provide a safe seamless service for endoscopy users. As part of their role they will be expected to work closely with teams from the other endoscopy sites and administration teams to plan and template future activity. They will also be required to ensure a timely cost effective service which achieves all NHS targets for the department.

Our aim is to provide the users of our service with an excellent patient experience evaluation of programmes of care. The job holder will provide highly specialised nursing advice specific to the patient group or speciality. The jobholder will contribute to the development of the speciality service as well as contributing to the strategic direction of nursing within the trust.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

Support and participate in local and trus twide recruitment events

Investigate and respond to accidents, complaints, untoward incidents and other significant events

Deliver an effective, safe, quality service within budgetary envelope.

Raise and respond to concerns with regards to risk, danger, malpractice or wrongdoing by following the LTHT whistle blowing policy and supporting processes

Clinical

Act in accordance to the Nursing and Midwifery Councils Code: Professional Standards Practice and Behaviour

Fulfils the requirements as directed by the Nursing and Midwifery Council to maintain and revalidate registration

Supervise ward staff with regards clinical practice and patient experience to promote the delivery of excellent clinical standards

Provide a visible clinical lead and role model to the nursing and wider team by delivering high quality compassionate care as an expert practitioner

Ensure that documentation standards are maintained in accordance with NMC and LTHT guidelines, whether written or computerised.

Promote and maintain positive working relationships between all staff, internal and external to the Trust, involved in the care of patients

Set, monitor and seek to continuously improve standards and the quality of patient care, including those standards defined in local and national guidance.

Maintain a safe working environment.

Ensure the safe use and efficient management of equipment and supplies.

Promote compassionate evidence-based practice, wherever possible

Work with Matron to ensure that clinical governance processes at ward/dept level encompass measures to ensure the quality of the fundamental and essential aspects of care

Balance clinical risk and clinical decision making against context.

Work with the Infection Prevention and Control Team and Facilities to monitor the environment to maintain and raise standards.

Adheres to LTHT safeguarding children and adults policies and procedures.

Contribute to improving the quality and safety of our service by working closely with the operational matron and Lead nurse for quality and governance.

Ensure that you facilitate opportunities for education and training for yourself as a registrant and your workforce.

Ensure that all staff have individual training and performance development plans, in line with their annual appraisal.
