An
exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 2 Ward Clerk to join the team on
J45 at St James Hospital. J45 is a 26 bedded, busy elective/acute surgical
ward specialising in colorectal. We have a friendly, well-established
surgical team with whom we work with daily to provide high quality care to
our patients. The post holder will work in partnership with the
multi-disciplinary team in a supportive clinical environment. If you enjoy

The
staff on J45 take pride in patient care and always receive positive feedback
from both patients and other colleagues within the trust. Being the ward
clerk is a vital part of our team. As a ward clerk on J45 you will be a
pivotal member of our team, answering the phone, admitting and discharging
patients and working closely with the nursing team to understand the demands
of the unit on a day to day basis. No day is the same

Main duties of the job
Order
stationary and complete requisition forms under instruction from
Sister/Charge Nurse.

to maintain high standards of care
Assist
in the welcome and reception of patients and visitors into the clinical area
Maintain
a safe working environment, reporting incidents, accidents, complaints

in in-service training
Participate
in mandatory training annually
Participate
in annual performance appraisal
Undertake
duties on different wards/depts as and when required by service demands

Job responsibilities
To
undertake administrative duties at ward level including the accurate and
timely recording of patient activity data on Trust systems. To undertake
clerical and related duties on the ward and enable Sister/Charge Nurse and
other ward staff to concentrate more freely on direct patient care. This will
involve considerable liaison with other departments and wards on behalf of
the ward staff.
The
jobholder will contribute to the maintenance of an environment for effective
care.
The
jobholder will work within both J95 + J96. J95 is an acute assessment area
seeing around 20-30 patients per day and J96 is an area caring for 22
in-patients.
PRINCIPAL
DUTIES & AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
Administrative
and Clerical Duties

Record admission, transfer and discharge activity data onto the Trust PAS
system.

Arrange patients follow-up appointments using the PAS system and order
transport for patients when required.

Record changes to the bed base and inform the relevant corporate team
-
Handle telephone calls from relatives, hospital staff, public etc, under
guidance where necessary from the Sister/Charge Nurse, and making calls where
appropriate on behalf of ward staff.

Ensure that patients medical records (including x-rays) are available on the
ward, obtaining these where necessary from other departments.
-
Transfer pathology and other reports to patients records, and general
collation of records promptly and efficiently, especially on patients
discharge.

Deliver patients mail.
