Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 Ward Leader on ward J44 which specialises in colorectal surgery and is the Centre for Intestinal Rehabilitation @ Leeds and on J49 which specialises in Renal Medicine and Transplant based within the Abdominal Medicine and Surgical CSU.
J44 - Colorectal surgery and Centre for Intestinal Rehabilitation @ Leeds
We need an enthusiastic, passionate and compassionate individual to lead the team with a clear vison, demonstrating senior leadership and be involved in continuing to develop surgical and Intestinal Rehabilitation Services as part of an extensive MDT.
You will be required:
To develop the nursing team and have strong leadership qualities.
To take direct managerial responsibility for the clinical area and have budgetary responsibility.
To assist in the delivery of care standards and quality indicators to support safe and effective patient care.
To act as a clinical resource within the department as necessary.
To act as a positive role model.
To have excellent communication skills.
The successful applicant will need to demonstrate recent change management implementation, a clear understanding of The Leeds Way and a sound understanding of workforce management.

Main duties of the job
Provide leadership to the clinical team
Support and inspire staff to provide efficient, effective, safe, quality care to patients
Deliver a positive patient experience
Promote the building of effective teams and collaboration between teams
Anticipate problems and take preventative or mitigating actions, or have contingency plans available
Work with Matron to lead the development of ward/department nursing practice, reflecting the Clinical Service Unit and Trust business plans
Work with the Matron and or Head of Nursing to suggest and develop new roles/ways of working
Delegate and empower staff whilst maintaining overall, continuing responsibility and accountability
Line manage the nursing team, including individual and team performance, attendance, management and workforce planning
Ensure the effective deployment of staff is mapped against the flow of patients to provide safe and effective care
Support and participate in local and trustwide recruitment events
Manage the use of bank and agency
Investigate and respond to accidents, complaints, untoward incidents and other significant events
Deliver an effective, safe, quality service within budgetary envelope
Raise and respond to concerns with regards to risk, danger, malpractice or wrongdoing by following the LTHT whistle blowing policy and supporting processes
Deputise for Matron in their absence
