Job summary
The
cystoscopy service is based at St James Hospital which is a busy department
providing care for patients on several different care pathways. This includes
patients receiving a new diagnosis of cancer, cancer surveillance as well as
the management of benign conditions.
The
job holder will work within the nurse cystoscopy team, as well as contribute
to the wider multidisciplinary team. To continue the development of the nurse
led service we would like an inspirational, compassionate, and caring nurse
who is committed to continually improving the patient experience.
We
need a unique individual who is a hard-working enthusiastic team player able
to deliver high quality care under pressure. We are looking for applicants
with urology or oncology experience who are keen to develop their clinical
skills.
For
trainees we offer a supportive, friendly, and caring environment to complete
an individualised training and development plan which incorporates set
competences in line with the BAUS / BAUN guidelines.
Trained
nurse cystoscopist and non-medical prescriber - Band 7
Trainee
nurse cystoscopist Band 6 a further interview will be required on
completion training before moving to Band 7 .

Main duties of the job
The
role includes
Practical training to perform the
skill of flexible cystoscopy competently using the BAUN/ BAUS guidelines
Working within the flexible
cystoscopy room with a nurse cystoscopist / doctor to develop the skills/
knowledge required to make safe and competent decisions around patient care
and management and understand how to manage the list.
Working within the haematuria
pathway to assist with triage of 2 week wait referrals, the accurate and
appropriate requesting of investigations and timely review of reports to
ensure seamless management of patients on a cancer pathway. This includes
referral to other specialities and MDTs.
Telephone review and assessment of
patients with complex needs to assess their suitability for and to assist in
the planning of further investigation.
Assist with delivering health
promotion and advice to patients attending the cystoscopy clinic.
Assist with general queries from
patients and admin staff.
The
nurse cystoscopist role is demanding and challenging both physically and
emotionally, you will need to be resilient and able to concentrate and remain
focused for long periods of time and have excellent communication skills.
There
will be some private study time allocated.
