Within
the Abdominal Medicine and Surgical service unit at St James University
Hospital, a fantastic exciting and challenging opportunity has arisen. We are
currently looking for dynamic self-motivated Band 6 Senior Sisters/Charge
Nurses to join our team on Ward J91. We are looking for enthusiastic
individuals to support the Matron and the Senior team to ensure expert
high-quality care is delivered.
J91
is a busy gastroenterology & hepatology ward, with specialist interests in
Liver Transplantation.
J91
is looking to build on its current management team, to support the development
of staff and the quality and experience of care delivered to our patients.
Main duties of the job
J91
is a busy, challenging and highly rewarding work environment, and we have a
fantastic team of inclusive, hardworking, caring individuals. We are now
looking to recruit to into a secondment Band 6 nursing roles to support
patient care and our diverse team. You need to be a registered adult nurse
with a recognised teaching and assessing qualification. J91 covers a 24 hour
service and will therefore include days, nights and weekends.
This
is a demanding and challenging role, and we are looking for individuals who
are committed to providing an excellent service, has a progressive outlook
and can evidence strong leadership skills. The post holder will need to
demonstrate resilience and willingness to embrace and drive forward change as
part of the senior nursing team. Our successful candidate will have excellent
communication skills, be able to act as a clinical resource within the
department as necessary, be able to role model excellent behaviours, based on
the Leeds Way and have proven strong leadership and managerial qualities and
will be able to assist in the delivery of care standards and quality
indicators to support safe and effective patient care. In return we will give
you support from a well-established senior team.

is a 25 bedded ward area supporting a range of patients with liver related
disorders, gastroenterology disorders, eating disorder & intestinal failure
patients. Pre liver transplantation patients too.

The
jobholder will play an essential role assisting the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse
with the 24-hour continuing responsibility for the effective and efficient
management of the ward / department.
They will contribute to the provision of professional, clinical,
managerial leadership and supervision for the nursing team. The jobholder is responsible for helping to
develop and maintain a ward or departments philosophy that has the patient at
the centre of compassionate safe and quality care delivery. By assisting with managing the administrative
and financial aspects of the ward, the jobholder will support the
cost-effective use of resources.
As
an experienced nurse the jobholder will assist in co-ordinating activities on
the ward or department ensuring effective communication is always maintained,
providing support to qualified and unqualified nurses within the
ward/dept. He/she will play a key role
in the assessment of patient care needs and the development, implementation and
evaluation of programmes of care.
The
jobholder will act as a role model, promoting quality evidence-based practice,
developing the nursing team and ensuring effective management of the
ward/department in the absence of the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse.
