Job summary
An
exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Leeds Institute of Emergency
General Surgery as a Medical Secretary.
We
are looking for a hard-working, adaptable, and patient centred individual to
work closely with the Institutes Business Unit and clinical teams.
The
roles working hours are 08:00 to 16:00, Monday to Friday (37.5 hours per
week). This working pattern is flexible to a certain extent if the candidate
is right.

Main duties of the job
The
successful candidate will be part of a small and closely-knit business unit
that prides itself on its close co-operation with and the high standard of
service it provides to the services clinical and nursing teams. The
successful candidate can expect to work closely with the services
consultants, nurses and business managers.
The
successful candidate will be responsible for the typing, issuing, and filing
of clinical letters and documents. They will also be responsible for the
Assistant Business Manager in running an effective outpatient service. This
will include booking appointments, managing waiting lists and answering
patient queries.
The
successful candidate will be hard-working, adaptable and patient centred.
They will also be a great team player, open to new ideas, IT literate and
able to transcribe complex dictations at pace.

Teaching Hospitals Abdominal Medicine and Surgery CSU, it has quickly become
one of busiest and most established general surgical units in the country.

PURPOSE
The
post holder will provide a comprehensive secretarial service to the Emergency
General Surgery team. They will support processes to sustain the departments
activity through administrative protocols, processes, and procedures in line
with service needs. They must be able to communicate sensitively and
effectively with a wide range of people including patients, medical staff,
and colleagues. The secretary may be required to cover for colleagues during
absence and ensure duties are covered for the departments core service
hours.
