Job responsibilities
The
post holders primary initial focus will be for Pancreatic pathways, using
proven interventions, such as Enhanced Recovery after Surgery Protocols and
Pathway documentation on wards to improve patient experience, length of stay
and outcomes.
The
appointee will work closely with the existing members of the surgical teams,
including the Macmillan Cancer Nurse Specialists, Advanced Clinical
Practitioners, ward based nurses and Surgeons, to provide advanced nursing
expertise to patients undergoing surgery for pancreatic, biliary and duodenal
diseases, including cancer, pre-malignant cysts, and complex benign
disease. The role will broadly involve
three aspects:
1)
pre-operative education
2)
clinical post-operative care of in-patients and the early post-discharge
period
3)
oversight of governance processes to collect and review data on peri- and
post-operative complications, outcomes and quality metrics relating to the
Enhanced Recovery Programme and Prescribed pathways
The
plan will be to roll out this way of working for all other surgical
specialties in the AMS elective care hubs situated in Bexley Wing.
The
postholder will be supported and line managed by the Quality and Education
team in the first instance, though will work closely with the operational
matron.

Leadership
Support in providing leadership to

Supervise clinical delivery of care
competencies.
Clinical
Work in Partnership with Matron,
Team Leaders, Senior Sisters/Charge Nurses in the development of
department/ward practice, reflecting LTHT strategic education and workforce
delivery plans.
Contribute to the training needs
analysis for individuals and clinical need.
Responsible for the direct delivery
of clinical education (this will include the teaching and demonstration of a
range of clinical skills and medical devices.
Provide high quality care as an
expert practitioner and act as a role model and resource for advice, support
and guidance
Deliver complex information to
patients and staff
Act in accordance with the relevant
professional code i.e. NMC or HCPC
Fulfil the requirements as directed
by the Nursing and Midwifery Council to maintain and revalidate registration
Ensure and promote the maintenance
of a safe, clean and secure working environment
Assist with maintenance of accurate
training records using LTHT documentation and electronic staff records (ESR)
Undertake duties on wards or
departments as and when required by service demands or patient need
Act in such a way that safeguards
the health and wellbeing of children and vulnerable adults at all times. Is
familiar with and adheres to, the LTHT safeguarding policies.
Raise concerns with regards to
risk, danger, malpractice or wrong doing by following the LTHT Whistleblowing
policy and supporting processes.
Supervise clinical staff to promote
the delivery of excellent clinical standards
Provide a visible clinical lead and
role model to the nursing and wider team by delivering high quality
compassionate care as an expert practitioner
Ensure that documentation standards
are maintained in accordance with NMC, HCPC and LTHT guidelines, whether
written or computerised.
Promote and maintain positive
working relationships between all staff, internal and external to the Trust,
involved in the care of patients
Help to set, monitor and seek to
continuously improve standards and the quality of patient care, including
those standards defined in local and national guidance
Quality
Improvement
Has a responsibility to improve the
quality and safety of our services. It
is expected that in fulfilling a clinical leadership role you will be
proactive in promoting and supporting the Leeds Improvement Method.
Contribute to quality improvement programmes as required
Keep up to date with and
communicate service developments, advances and research.

Education
and Training
Promote an effective learning
environment within the workplace;
Participate
in existing induction and preceptorship programmes and adapt to reflect the
needs of LTHT
Collaborate with the Lead Nurse for
Education and with Organisational Learning in the provision of training and
education;
Support and guide mentors in the
workplace ensuring continuity in assessment and addressing inconsistencies;
Contribute to the maintenance of
detailed and accurate records regarding staff education, including monthly
and quarterly reports;
Contribute to the development and
evaluation of educational programmes to ensure clinical areas are able to
achieve and maintain an accredited educational learning environment for all
students, registered and unregistered staff;
Collaborate with other members of
the team in clinical areas and departments to ensure that the provision of
education and training is clear and robust.
Mentorship and supervision of
junior staff;
Liaise with outside agencies in the
development of suitable education and training opportunities for staff;
Support staff to deliver
evidence-based practice and research activities to further enhance patient
care;
Participate in own and others
appraisals
Undertake mandatory and priority
training within the required time scales
