Locum Consultant in the department of Emergency General Surgery We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to fill a locum consultant post working within the Leeds Institute of Emergency General Surgery (LIEGS) at the St James University Hospital. A number of our team are not eligible for traditional substantive appointments and as such we would welcome those not eligible, to apply for this locum post. Leeds is one of the busiest acute general surgical centres in the UK and as such our case volume, service design and demonstrated committed investment is ensuring the unit continues to develop and continues to be at forefront of acute general surgery services, clinically, educationally and academically in the UK. Main duties of the job
The new consultant in Emergency General Surgery will join our existing team of eleven consultants within the department which is led by Mr Adam Peckham-Cooper. This innovative, exciting, collaborative and flexible department manages acute general surgery patients during the day running amongst other things an Ambulatory Surgical Centre (ASC), a Surgical Assessment Unit (SAU), elective Rapid Access and emergency theatres. The successful applicants will be encouraged to develop their own personal interests which may include training, teaching, research and management. The unit has developed rapidly over the last four years but continues to present enormous opportunities in embedding Leeds as a national leader for innovation, research and service delivery of emergency and acute care surgery. The successful applicant should possess FRCS or equivalent, and should be on the Specialist Register or within six months of being admitted onto the Register for trainees currently in a training programme within the UK, or have references which have been authorised by the Deputy Medical Director and Clinical Director. Candidates should have established skills and competencies in managing unselected Emergency General Surgery patient and its related specialties including upper GI, colorectal and hepatobiliary surgery. A commitment to undergraduate / postgraduate teaching and a research interest is desirable. Consideration will be given to applicants who wish to work full or part time
