Job summary
To contribute to the provision of evidence based professional midwifery services. To provide high quality holistic perinatal midwifery care sensitive to the needs of the woman and her family. To work in partnership with the multi-disciplinary team in both the hospital and community settings, providing continuity of carer according to the local models of care. This includes partnership working with general practitioners, obstetricians, midwives, health visitors and all other agencies involved. To ensure that safe quality care is received by women and their families throughout the maternity pathway. The post holder will complete the West Yorkshire & Harrogate Local Maternity & Neonatal System (WY&H LMNS) preceptorship package with support and as part of their professional development and transition to Band 6. During the preceptorship period the midwife will have the opportunity to provide care across the perinatal pathway in a variety of settings. To act as a clinical role model and practice autonomously within the parameters of local and national guidance and sphere of professional practice, adhering at all times to The Code for Nurses and Midwives (NMC, 2018) and working within the policies and standards detailed by the Trust.
Main duties of the job
Main Duties and Responsibilities Clinical Provide safe, high-quality evidence-based care throughout the maternity pathway. Communicates in a clear and unbiased manner with women, families and the multi-disciplinary team facilitating informed decision making. In partnership with the woman / birthing person, the midwife assesses needs, plans, implements and evaluates care on an individual basis, promoting equity, equality and considering diversity and rights. Maintain contemporaneous documentation in accordance with NMC Code. Liaise and work collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary team and other agencies, when complex needs are identified. Continuously assess risks and deviations from normal and ensure timely referral, intervention and escalation. Consider the diverse needs of women and their families and ensure the delivery of individualised plans of care. Participates in provision of public health information Provide health/parent education either individually or in groups to maximise the benefit to families. Advocate for womens informed choice in the decision-making process regarding all aspects of their pregnancy birth and postnatal care. Participates in departmental team meetings and other committees when necessary.
