Urology Specialist Nurse Practitioner

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a secondment/fixed term contract as a Band 7, 30 hours post, Urology Specialist Nurse. The Urology service works closely with our neighbouring NHS Trusts and primary care, to deliver outpatient based services for patients accessing the service from across our local community, across a range of clinical pathways.

The post holder will be required to possess excellent communication and organisational skills in order to maximise patient experience and ensure high quality patient focused outcomes. Key elements of the role are to be able to work collaboratively and effectively with key stakeholders within the multi-disciplinary team, whilst utilising clinical skills and professional judgement to manage the patient pathway. The successful post holder will be expected to work autonomously and manage their own clinical caseload of patients. The post will also involve working closely with colleagues from other Trusts, health care professionals and 3rd sector partnership organisations locally, regionally and nationally.

Main duties of the job

We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated, enthusiastic and experienced nurse to join us in the urology nurse specialist team. Working alongside the existing nurse specialists and wider multi-disciplinary team, this role will focus on providing specialist advice, care and support to patients referred to the Urology service with either suspected or confirmed genito-urinary cancers along with a range of other benign urological problems.

The successful applicant will need to meet the following criteria:

A minimum of 2 years' experience at Band 6 within the speciality of Urology with specific interest in the specialist care and management of patients with urological problems

Educated to degree level in a health related subject or actively working towards completion of this

Specific interest in contributing towards service improvement and practice development within the specialist nursing team

Evidence of ongoing professional development

Excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills

Ability to work autonomously and as a member of the wider multi-disciplinary team

Be expected to have or work towards Non - medical Prescriber status

Have experience in teaching or a recognised teaching certificate.

Knowledge and understanding of contemporary issues within urological cancer care

Flexibility to respond to the changing needs of the service
