Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to recruit a Band 2 Community Phlebotomist to join our Locality Teams in Gateshead. Locality Teams pride themselves on providing a high-quality service to patients in Gateshead.

Main duties of the job

As a Phlebotomist in the locality team you will obtain blood samples from patients through venepuncture as requested by clinicians, ensuring they are correctly labelled and forwarded to the laboratory. The post holder will collect other samples and also carry out observation checks. The post holder will follow an in-service certificated competency training programme.

The duties will be carried out in the community setting under the supervision and guidance of a caseload holder; however the post holder will be expected to work alone with access to professional advice and guidance when required.

The post holder will work with the Locality Team Lead, they will also liaise with primary care in order to ensure that the day to day co-ordination and delivery of service is in a timely and professional manner.

There will be a need to understand and undertake administration and co-ordination tasks within the locality team as and when required. The post holder will work with minimal supervision, demonstrating the ability to use initiative, utilise IT systems and ensure effective and timely in a professional manner.
