Respiratory Specialist Nurse (HIVE and Embedded Research)

Job summary

Medical Service Line 2 is looking for a dynamic and motivated nurse with experience working in acute respiratory medicine in primary or secondary care settings. You will work with the well-established respiratory nursing team to support the development of a specialist health inequalities programme of work, and to embed research into the Gateshead Health Respiratory Service.

You will be based at the QEH with the respiratory nursing team, but will have accountabilities to the Head of Research and Development and the Programme Lead for Health Inequalities.

Main duties of the job

Two key elements:

  1. Health Inequalities

You will work closely with the Lead for Health Inequalities to provide specialist outreach to groups underserved by existing healthcare provision with an aim of improving access to healthcare and reducing inequalities.

  1. Research

You will be responsible for leading on respiratory research studies, and scoping new research opportunities with an overall aim of embedding clinical research into the Respiratory Nursing and Medical team's core clinical practice in line with the Trust's Research and Development strategy.

Job responsibilities

  • To provide the highest standard of holistic care for patients through the utilisation of enhanced clinical skills and advice in the assessment and management of patients in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team to improve and maintain the quality and safety of patient care.
  • To contribute to the delivery and development of Respiratory Service through the use of effective evidence based practice in line with agreed national standards for clinical practice.
  • To be accountable for the planning and delivery of all aspects of patient care in relation to the Respiratory Services and as set out in the NMC Code.
  • To continuously improve clinical care standards in line with the clinical governance framework to ensure the highest quality of care is provided in safest manner.
  • To work as senior member with a clinical team, in the provision of Respiratory Services.
  • To provide specialist clinical advice and support to clinical staff within GHNT on the management and care of patients with Respiratory disease to facilitate the effective delivery of care to patients.
  • To communicate effectively with all members of the multi-disciplinary team, patients, carers and the public.
  • To act as a resource and role model for the profession at all times
  • To provide education and training to clinical staff and internal /external agencies.

  • Identify patients who meet criteria for biologics, submitting evidence to the regional MDT, monitor and support patients receiving biologics in line with regional and national guidelines.
