Job summary
The Clinical Coding department is responsible for the coding of all inpatient attendances within the Trust and a proportion of outpatient activity. It is the department's responsibility to ensure these are coded within local and nationally agreed timescales ensuring accuracy, completeness of coding and correct HRG assignment, to enable the Trust to receive the appropriate financial reimbursement.
Main duties of the job
You will join a supportive team with a dedicated Clinical Coding Trainer and receive full training on all aspects of the job. Essential skills for the role are in areas of demonstrating knowledge of data extraction and interpretation; communication skills; IT; knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
At interview you will need to demonstrate interpersonal and organisational skills and possess a strong willingness to learn. You will need to be a team player who is able to show initiative, have a positive attitude and be able to manage your workload to meet the demands of the operational service. Training will be provided in all technical aspects of the role and IT systems that are used.
The main aspects of the job are;
- To abstract and analyse complex clinical information from patients records and then translate this into a coded format in line with National Standards.
- To ensure the timely entry of encoded data onto appropriate computer systems to meet the Trust's requirements for statutory information and financial flows.
- To use a variety of Clinical Information Systems to analyse medical information and ensure data quality for which a high level of knowledge of Medical Terminology and Anatomy & Physiology is essential.
To observe high levels of patient confidentiality at all times.
