Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a radiologist to join our expanding consultant team at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Gateshead.

The local area is a great place to live with the Northumberland coastline and hills on the doorstep and the vibrant centres of Gateshead and Newcastle and cultural options such as the Sage Gateshead and Theatre Royal in Newcastle.

The Queen Elizabeth Hospital provides a comprehensive range of acute services and is a Cancer Centre for Colorectal Cancer and Lung Cancer. The Trust also has the Northern Gynaecological Oncology Centre on site.

We have a full complement of radiographers, sonographers and nurses who work alongside the consultant team. Our strategy is one of growth and development both of our team in terms of new roles and advanced practice and in new equipment to support the latest techniques

There is ongoing investment in Radiology at Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust, Queen Elizabeth Hospital that includes in the last 6 months replacement of one of the CT Scanners and DEXA scanner, RIS upgrade, and upgrade of the PACS reporting workstations including teleradiology and we have recently received national funding for a Community Diagnostic Hub.

Main duties of the job

Commitments will include contributing to the Lung Cancer MDT, CT Coronary Angiography reporting and Cardiothoracic intervention such as drains and biopsies. There may be an opportunity to contribute to the targeted Lung Health check programme locally for the duration of the programme and the opportunity to help develop an on site focussed Cardiac MRI Service. The appointment will also contribute to the general cross-sectional imaging workload such that excellent general cross-sectional skills will be required.

Additionally the appointee will take part in the 1 in 10 seven day partial shift rota which involves Monday to Friday evening shifts 5pm to 8pm and Saturday and Sunday shifts 9am to 3pm. Emergency CT is outsourced to a third party provider between 8pm and 9am Monday to Friday and 3pm to 9am Saturday and Sunday.
