Job summary
Applications are invited for the post of Speciality Doctor in Elderly Medicine at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Gateshead. The post would be suitable for individuals who are interested in furthering their knowledge, skills, and experience in Elderly Medicine, whilst working in a stimulating yet supportive environment. The successful applicant will join the Elderly Medicine team working in the Jubilee Wing and would ideally have completed at least 12-18 months working in Elderly Medicine with experience in managing elderly inpatients and be interested in pursuing a longer-term career within the speciality.
The post is full time (10PA) but applications from candidates who would prefer to work less than full time will also be considered.
Main duties of the job
This post would suit a junior doctor with an interest in Elderly Medicine and an aspiration to work in the speciality on a longer-term basis, ideally having already spent at least a year working within an Elderly Medicine department. The appointee would work primarily on Ward 25, an acute Elderly Medicine ward taking new patients from our medical assessment unit at the front of house. The appointee would also be encouraged to be involved in the running of our department, coordinating staffing and leave requests on our wards and contributing to our departmental teaching programme. They would also be encouraged to contribute to our departmental outpatient services in either Osteoporosis or Falls & Syncope and to develop an interest in other areas such as Acute Frailty or Community Geriatrics.
