Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a band 6 physiotherapist within the physiotherapy service. This is a rotational post within Tyneside Integrated Musculoskeletal Services (TIMS) offering rotations within Spinal, Upper Limb, Lower Limb and Pain Management/Long-term Condition specialties.

There will be opportunities to work alongside senior staff and this post will allow you to develop a wide range of clinical, teaching and supervision skills. You will play an active role in audits and service development. You will also work closely with the other members of the team and share responsibility for managing band 5, support staff and students. You will also be required to provide support for the band 7 team leads / advanced physiotherapist practitioners within the service.

The post holder will rotate with in the msk specialty every 12 months.

Main duties of the job

Work as part of the physiotherapy team delivering a high standard of physiotherapy to patients within the patient pathway in TIMS.

To act as an experienced autonomous practitioner, providing a high standard of physiotherapy assessment and treatment programmes.

Responsible for own continued professional development.

Supervise physiotherapists and students within the clinical pathway/area.

Maintain and develop current knowledge of evidence based practice in Musculoskeletal Outpatients, developing specialist knowledge of particular conditions and patient groups.

Have an advanced understanding of physiotherapy clinical practices and procedures within the specialty area

Have specialist knowledge of manual handling legislation and current best practice

Interpret a range of clinical and non-clinical facts relating to individual patients some of which may be complex

Undertake a comprehensive specialist assessment of patients, identify the musculoskeletal /orthopaedic problem, plan and implement an appropriate programme of physiotherapy care using advanced clinical reasoning and determine the most appropriate treatment methods from a range of physiotherapy options including self-management.

Monitor and evaluate patient progress within their treatment programme through regular re-assessment and re-evaluation of clinical and non-clinical facts and make changes to include discharging patients when appropriate.

Responsible for a caseload of complex patients within the clinical pathway working without direct supervision.

Provide and receive complex patient information including diagnosis and prognosis, which may be sensitive and where there may be barriers to communication due to patients physical and psychological conditions e.g. deafness, depression, Alzheimers disease. Developed use of verbal and non- verbal communication tools will be required.
