Job summary
This is an opportunity for a specialist musculoskeletal physiotherapist to further develop their skills in a First Contact Practice role as a band 7 Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioner in Tyneside Integrated Musculoskeletal Service (TIMS).
Successful applicants will work as part of a team to provide First Contact Physiotherapy into GP practices in the West End of Newcastle ensuring patients are managed according to existing pathways and protocols available through TIMS. They will also maintain a specialist caseload within TIMS and act as a source of expertise within the pathways and be expected to contribute to service evaluation, treatment and research within the service.
Applicants should have a degree or equivalent qualification in Physiotherapy and be State registered with the Health and Care Professions Council. They should have extensive post graduate experience with working knowledge of the role of the First Contact Practitioner, TIMS pathways and protocols and experience of integrating evidence based guidelines into clinical practice. Also, evidence of ongoing accredited CPD in a specialist area including relevant post graduate courses.

Main duties of the job
Provide a high standard of physiotherapy care to a highly complex patient group referred to TIMS.
Take a major role in the advanced assessment and treatment of patients within the speciality with musculo-skeletal conditions referred to TIMS who may have complex physical, psychological and chronic presentations.
Triage referrals and make onward referrals to other healthcare professionals some of which may be urgent, and to determine clinical diagnosis, develop and deliver an individualised treatment programme, and maintain records as an autonomous practitioner.
Carry a clinical caseload of complex patients within the speciality using skills to aid diagnosis and development of treatment plans e.g. ordering x-rays, administering injection therapy.
Liaise with MDT colleagues, specifically GP's and consultants with regard to the delivery and evaluation of the TIMS service.
Provide day to day clinical leadership to Band 6 and 5 Physiotherapists within the clinical pathway through supervision, assessment, education and support.
