We are looking for a dynamic Head of People Services to support and guide our People Services team. Delivering excellence in People Practice is our aim and across our people services team this is vital to ensure that all our staff at Gateshead Health receive the best service. The People Services teams provide the solid foundations for our department and we need a Head of Service that is motivated and compassionate to inspiring and lead the teams on their journey to excellence.

Main duties of the job

  • Work with the Deputy Director to ensure the development and delivery of the trusts local People Strategy, in accordance with the national People Plan.
  • Be a member of the directorate senior leadership team, leading compassionately and overseeing the provision of efficient and customer focused services to the Trust, delivering high quality outcomes. Managing and motivating POD staff to achieve objectives and ensure the continuous development, designing and implementing individual and team development plans, supported by appraisal and performance management and annual team work plans. Demonstrate and exemplify positive behaviours and attitudes, acting as a role model to others and nurture a culture in keeping with the Trust's values.
  • Champion effective working relationships with Trade Union partners and work to embed our values, core behaviours and competencies in the day-to-day work and culture of our workforce.
  • Oversee, drive and embed the new model of POD Leads and refocus of internal teams to be more aligned to Business Units/Corporate Services, acknowledging that this is a distinct change in practice and will need ongoing support.
  • Strive to ensure that all teams are putting the customer at the fore front of their work, predominantly through the new POD Lead posts who will be a key customer themselves.
  • Work with the People Planning and Quality lead, providing assurance on the full range of portfolio business to Board, HR Committee and external regulators as required.

Based in the North East of England we provide a range of hospital and community health services from our leading facilities, including the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Blaydon urgent care centre and Bensham Hospital, all within Gateshead.

The People and OD Directorate (POD) is responsible for developing people strategies, policy, practice, and delivering P&OD services which support strategic objectives, improve staff engagement, comply with legislation, and support organisational culture development and the embedding of organisational values.

Our whole ethos is to provide a customer focused quality service to the trust business units and corporate departments through the provision of the following:

  • Expert people advice and guidance (strategic and operational) to business units and services across the trust.
  • Core employee relations and case management advice and support.
  • People data and information including reporting, ESR, Health Roster and Bank services.
  • Recruitment and retention including expert temporary staffing sourcing (all clinical professions).
  • Medical Staffing advice and support.
  • Employee health and wellbeing services, including Occupational Health.
  • Organisational development including leadership, team development and staff engagement strategy.
  • Learning and development including training, multi professional education and library services.
  • People planning and development.

The Head of People Services will be a core member of the POD Senior Leadership Team, providing leadership, support and guidance to all directorate staff to provide professional workforce advice to the Trust and will be the senior lead for the function, leading the full range of the people services on a day to day basis.
