Gateshead Apprenticeship into Nursing is an exciting new initiative being offered by Gateshead Health NHS Trust, and is aimed at school or college leavers who will be 18yrs old by August 31st 2023.
This 54-month programme will focus on delivering care to our local population while providing the opportunity to learn and develop skills and knowledge in clinical practice in partnership with a local University, working toward becoming a Registered Nurse with a BSc Hons degree. This fabulous opportunity affords the ability to be paid while working to obtain the expertise and experience necessary.You will be required to achieve the standards as set out by the NMC, HEI and the Institute of Apprenticeships and on completion of the programme, register as an adult nurse.During the education programme you will develop skills and knowledge that will allow you to work in today's advancing and ever-changing healthcare environment. You will be required to commit to self-directed study and successfully complete the education programme within the contract period.
Main duties of the job
The first 6 months of the 54 month pathway will focus on developing the fundamentals of nursing care, attaining the Trusts care certificate and completing Trust core skills training. This will provide the 580 hours of clinical practice required to go onto the next part of the pathway.
Following successful completion of these requirements you will be eligible to join the Trainee Nursing Associate Apprenticeship (TNA) with a local university. Over the next 24 months you will develop and maintain knowledge, skills and competencies related to the role of Nursing Associate within the service which includes working in different care settings and the delivery of person-centred care.
Following successful completion of the TNA apprenticeship programme you will then complete a period of consolidation (6 months) prior to commencement of an 18month Registered Nurse degree Apprenticeship.
For the duration of the apprenticeship, you will gain experience, skills and knowledge working in a range of clinical environments in hospital and in the community and make a supervised contribution to the delivery of care to patients.
