Full Time Fertility Nurse - 37.5 Hours per week - Permanent

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic staff nurse to join our busy and successful assisted conception unit based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. This is an exciting and unique opportunity to gain experience in this specialised area of health care.

Post holders will be required to demonstrate an attitude which will enhance effective communication and multidisciplinary working to provide specialist timely care for patients.

You must possess excellent interpersonal and organisational skills and be able to work well both on your own and as part of a team.

We are a busy unit, currently performing approximately 500 cycles of assisted conception treatments annually. We offer a full range of infertility treatments including IVF, ICSI, IUI, DI, FET and egg donation and treat both self funded and NHS patients.

Main duties of the job

To provide high quality nursing care and support to patients and their families within Gateshead Fertility Unit.

  • Assist in theatre and recovery.
  • Plan and co-ordinate patient's treatment cycles.
  • Coach patients to self-administer fertility drugs and obtain informed consent for treatment.
  • Provide information and advice on treatment and emotional support to patients face to face and over the telephone/video call.
  • Perform venepuncture.
  • Chaperone nurses and doctors.
  • Prepare theatre and support with theatre procedures.
  • Participate in on-going Quality Management by participating in the undertaking of audits.
  • Progress through the competency framework for fertility nursing.
  • Compliance to legislative and organisational codes of practice.
