Our service has an exciting opportunity for a Recruit to Train Trainee CBT practitioner to join our team as part of the NHS England (NHSE) funded Children and Young People (CYP) Psychological Training Programmes (formerly CYP-IAPT).
Recruit to Train is a government-funded initiative aiming to grow the child mental health workforce to meet much needed demand. To help reach this goal, NHSE covers salary and training costs for a 1-year post, allowing services to employ trainees to aid in implementing new or expanding existing specialist pathways to bridge the gaps in CYP mental health support.
This is a unique opportunity to apply your learning from weekly teaching into practical clinical interventions working with clients in the service making a direct impact in the lives of children, young people and their families.
This is a training year in this Recruit to Train CBT post combines formal teaching at Kings College London with a caseload within the South West London St. George's Trust CAMHS service line. Upon completion of the training year, the postholder will be encouraged to apply for CBT posts within the Trust Deaf CAMHS service line following successful BABCP accreditation.
Under the professional and clinical supervision, the postholder will work within a CBT framework for their training cases and support the wider service as required with additional work relevant to their training.
Main duties of the job
We are seeking highly motivated candidates who are enthusiastic about making a difference to deaf/ child of a deaf adult's mental health through evidence-based interventions based on NICE Guideline recommended treatment.
Training Information
This full-time training will begin in January 2026 with around 2.5 days a week for academic work (teaching and personal study), and 2.5 days based at the service seeing clients related to training assignments. Trainees will be both an employee of the service and an enrolled student with King's College London. Upon completion, qualified trainees will receive a KCL Postgraduate Diploma.

Clinical and Clinical Research
To assist qualified applied psychologists and psychotherapists in the implementation of delivery of psychological interventions to deaf and hearing children, young people and parents in line with NICE guidance.
To assist with the provision of information and self-help material for service users under the supervision of a qualified professional psychologist or psychotherapist.
To undertake protocol based psychological assessments of patients applying psychological, including self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with patients and others involved in the clients care.
To assist in the formulation and delivery of mental health care involving psychological interventions for emotional, behavioural and mental health problems, under the clinical supervision of qualified professional psychologists / psychotherapists, in community settings.
To assist, and where appropriate lead, in the coordination and running of groups and workshops.
Teaching, Training and Supervision
In common with all applied therapists, to receive regular clinical supervision in accordance with professional practice guidelines and clinical governance guidelines.
To complete the KCL RTT training programme and assignments to further develop skills in therapeutic interventions and risk assessment.
To develop skills and competencies that assist in the delivery of current duties.
To support the Deaf CAMHS team with the regular and systematic entry of clinical data on Rio according to CAMHS protocols and to highlight areas of difficulty to leads and managers as soon as they arise.
To contribute to the training and support of others, including staff in the non-statutory sector enabling them to provide effective mental health care.
To inform primary care practitioners and users about local statutory and voluntary services to whom children and young people can be signposted.
Management, Recruitment and Service Development
To assist in the design and implementation of service development projects within the service as required.
To attend meetings in which service developments are planned and discussed.
Research and Service Evaluation
To assist the clinical team leader and others in undertaking data collection, analysis, and production of reports and summaries, in relation to Deaf CAMHS services.
To undertake searches of evidence-based literature and research to assist qualified applied psychologists and others in evidence-based practice in individual work and work with other team members.
Other
Post holder will be expected to engage and develop a good understanding deaf culture, communication, deaf awareness e.g interacting with deaf staff and clients using interpreters where appropriate.
To contribute to the development and maintenance of the highest professional standards of practice, through active participation in internal and external CPD training and the Trusts development review programmes, in consultation with the postholders professional lead and team manager(s).
