Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an outstanding operational leader to join an excellent Trust in a senior leadership role in mental health, supporting the Service Line with the delivery and improvement of our Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) and All-Age Eating Disorders (AAED) Services in South West London & St George's MH NHS Trust. This opportunity has arisen due to the retirement of the current postholder.
The Head of Service Delivery (HoSD) will work with the service line leadership to build high-quality services and lead high-quality teams, across specialist, inpatient and community settings, working together with partners to deliver excellent care for patients. Both CAMHS and Eating Disorders are significant priorities within the NHS Long-Term Plan and local SWL ICB Mental Health transformation plans, as well as the respective Provider Collaboratives within the South London Partnership for Mental Health. Main duties of the job
To provide leadership and support to the Service Line Senior team, who in turn lead the staff, services, and partners of the service line, through a collaborative, visionary, motivational and problem-solving approach. They will provide clarity of vision and values, and work with the Service Line Senior team to ensure that the service line meets performance, quality and financial objectives.
The postholder will work closely with the service line leadership quartet, under the leadership of the Clinical Director, to deliver on the service line business plan, bring about quality improvements, and meet essential standards of service delivery. They will represent the service line within the Trust, and externally in partnership meetings at place, system, and provider collaboratives.
The postholder will be expected to take a significant leadership role in the relevant areas of the Integrated Transformation Project; working closely with all service line staff, stakeholders, business and finance partners, to bring about improvements and sustainable changes in service delivery

Our largest, 19-ward site is in Springfield Village, created following our £150m investment into two new world class mental health facilities. A 32-acre public park, shops and cafes are now opening. - The post holder is line managed by the Clinical Director and will work in a quartet leadership arrangement with the Clinical Director, Head of Nursing and Quality and Head of Psychology & Psychotherapy to lead and manage the Service Line(s).
- Provide leadership to colleagues and partners through a co llabo rative, visionary, motivational and problem solving approach. The postholder is one of the four key senior leaders in the Service Line(s) who provide clarity of vision and values and supports the staff team to work with the leadership team to achieve these.
- As a senior leader the Head of Service Delivery will be required to deal with difficult and occasionally contentious matters; the postholder will be expected to show personal resilence and lead staff through such difficulties in a way that helps colleagues to address and resolve difficulties with positivity.
- The post holder has particular responsibility for line management of staff working in the Service Line (other than the Consultant Medical staff who are line managed by the Clinical Director or other senior doctor), and working closely with the rest of the team to ensure effective leadership to all staff and for service performance management.
- The postholder ensures that the Service Lines meet performance and financial targets and supports work led by the Clinical Director, Head of Nursing and Quality and Head of Psychology & Psychotherapy to bring about quality improvements and to meet essential standards.
- The post holder will be expected to deputise for the Clinical Director at the Trust Senior Leadership Team, as required, to provide feedback and assurance on Service Line issues and to participate in Trust wide strategy and delivery.
- The post holder will support the Clinical Director to liaise with and advise the Local Authorities and other system stakeholders and partners on service-specific issues.
- The post holder will support the Clinical Director in ensuring that the Trust is represented at relevant Mental Health Partnership Boards, Local Implementation Teams, Safeguarding Partnership Boards and Health Overview and Scrutiny Committees. Developing and sustaining constructive relationships with key commissioning managers and relevant senior officers in the Local Authorities, Integrated Care System, and other agencies, to create a sound basis for the development of integrated, partnership working in mental health services in the Borough(s).
- The post holder will regularly evaluate performance against Service Specifications including all KPIs, CQUIN and other measures and will support contract negotiations with local and national commissioners in order to inform the corporate negotiation process.
- The post holder will work closely with the facilities and maintenance department to ensure that the estate and internal environments meet the standards required.
- The post holder will play a lead role in overseeing the implementation of transformation within their service line, in particular the design, delivery and sustainability of the relevant parts of the Trusts integrated transformation programme and Productivity programme(s).
- The post holder will collaborate with other Heads of Service Delivery and other Service Line leadership team members to address issues of patient care, safety and quality to prioritise the needs of those who use services and address any gaps in service pathways.
