Job summary

Richmond Wellbeing Service (RWS) is looking to recruit two enthusiastic and motivated High Intensity CBT Therapists to join our dynamic and innovative service on a permanent contract with Talking Therapies (IAPT) team.

RWS is based in Twickenham, in the borough of Richmond. We are one of the top-rated adult Talking Therapies services in London, offering stepped-care, evidence-based interventions at steps 2 and 3. We are part of South West London & St George's NHS Trust.

The role is flexible blend of working from home (currently 3 days per week) and working throughout the borough of Richmond Upon Thames flexed to service need, with the expectation that clinical staff work one late evening per week (12 noon until 8pm).

Main duties of the job

This post involves:

  • Delivery of high quality, Step 3 CBT (face to face/online, group/individual) interventions for adult clients presenting with mild to moderate anxiety disorders and depression-related problems
  • Carrying out telephone, virtual online and face-to-face assessments
  • Working with people from different cultural backgrounds and ages, using interpreters where necessary

Job description

Job responsibilities

  1. To deliver an average of 22 booked and 20 completed clinical contacts per week.
  2. To provide highly specialist Step 3 clinical assessments based on the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources. This will include client self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews.
  3. To be knowledgeable about DSM-V diagnosis of common mental health problems (as relevant to IAPT) and skilled in the differential diagnosis of clinical disorders.
  4. To be able to clinically formulate clients problems and develop and implement plans for the formal Step 3 treatment and/or management of a clients problems, based upon an appropriate conceptual framework and employing methods based upon evidence of efficacy.
  5. A good understanding and ability to apply CBT treatment strategies flexibly across the whole range of disorders seen in IAPT (particularly depression, anxiety disorders and PTSD) and also adapting CBT treatments when working with clients who have co-morbid long term physical health conditions.
  6. To be responsible for implementing a range of psychological interventions (employed individually or in synthesis), maintaining a number of provisional hypotheses, adjusting and refining psychological formulations drawing upon different explanatory models and employing methods of intervention that are based upon evidence of treatment efficacy and which rely primarily upon CBT models.
  7. To evaluate and make decisions about treatment options taking into account both theoretical and therapeutic models and highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped the individual, family or group.
  8. To exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the assessment, treatment and discharge of clients whose problems are managed by psychologically based standard care plans.
  9. To provide specialist psychological advice, guidance and consultation to other professionals in order to support accurate diagnosis and formulation as well as the development of a sound treatment plan.
  10. To undertake risk assessment and risk management for individual clients in line with the services risk management policy, and to provide advice to other professions on psychological aspects of risk assessment and risk management.
  11. To communicate in a skilled and sensitive manner, information concerning the assessment, formulation and treatment plans of clients under their care and to monitor progress during the course of treatment.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Doctoral level training in clinical or counselling psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS including models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and (for Clinical Psychologists) neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology ; or alternative training outside of the UK that is recognised by the Health & Care Professions Council leading to registration in the UK as a Clinical or Counselling psychologist or oCompleted a level 2 British Association for Behavioural Cognitive Psychotherapy (BABCP) accredited training course in CBT leading to eligibility for registration with the BABCP as a CBT Therapist, or ohave completed a level 1 BABCP accredited training course in CBT and have met further training, continuing professional development and supervised clinical practice requirements to meet eligibility for registration with the BABCP, or obe currently registered with BABCP as a CBT therapist through an alternative BABCP recognised route
