Job summary

South West London and St George's Mental Health Trust (SWLStG) are committed to the unique value that people with lived experience of mental health challenges bring to the quality of mental health services we can offer within our Trust. We are currently advertising for a full-time experienced, self-motivated peer trainer who is passionate about supporting people to meet their career aspirations through provision of high-quality training, as well as improving the experience and outcomes from peer support models across the Trust and within the communities it serves.

We are seeking candidates who are committed to supporting both staff and people with lived experience to transform services at SWLStG's. Alongside experience in developing, delivering, and evaluating training, you should also possess expert level peer support skills with exceptional levels of attention to detail, drive and commitment to developing a high-quality training programme that meets the workforce needs of the organisation. The ideal candidate will be motivated by the relational elements of the role, as well as understanding the importance of efficient education and training programmes to enhance the experience of peers and the people they are working alongside.

You will be joining a hardworking, ambitious, and creative team who are also warm and friendly and aim to inspire hope and belief that recovery is possible, through sharing the wisdom of their own lived experience.

Main duties of the job

  • The successful candidate will be responsible for the timely development and delivery of a comprehensive and accessible foundational training for Peer Support Workers at SWLSTG's
  • They will also develop a 1/2 day training for people who are supervising Peer Support Workers in the Trust
  • The ability to work autonomously (though you will be supported) and at pace to tight timescales
  • You will therefore need to have personal lived experience of mental health issues and personal recovery and expert-level skills and experience in:
  1. Providing peer support both individually and in groups
  2. An understanding of coproduction principles and the ability to work with others with different perspectives to your own
  3. Designing training packages with exceptional organisation skills and attention to detail
  4. Facilitating, delivering and evaluating training
  5. Leadership skills that enable you to contribute to the growing positive reputation of Peer Support within the Trust and act as a role model for junior peers

  • Key Skills in Literacy and Numeracy Level 2 AND

  • Teaching/training qualification such as PTTLS, Level 3 Education or Mental Health First Aid Trainer or equivalent professional experience
