CAMHS & All Age Eating Disorders are looking for a Practice Development Nurse

Aquarius Ward is a specialist CAMHS inpatient mental health provision for young people aged 12 - 18 who are experiencing an acute mental health crisis. It is 12 bedded National Unit open 365 days a year, 24h a day. It is part of the South London Partnership providing the adolescent in-patient services for young people under St George's Southwest London Mental Health Trust, South London and Maudsley and Oxleas NHS Trust.

The team provides inpatient treatment for adolescents aged 12 to their 18th birthday in an acute mental health crisis that is unable to be managed in the community with conditions such as severe depression, anxiety OCD, self-harm, psychosis, and mania. You will be joining a multi-disciplinary team that is committed to the provision of highly quality service user centred care.

Main duties of the job

As Practice Development Nurse you will lead on the development of nurses and focus on supporting the ward to ensure the 11 Fundamental Standards of Care are embedded in practice and monitor improvements through clinical effectiveness: audit and quality monitoring systems.

You will take a lead on quality improvement and development quality improvement projects and deliver quality improvement outcomes as required. Aquarius Ward have a robust structure which empowers and supports nurses to lead in the safe delivery of high-quality care though teaching sessions, risk reflection and reflective practice and a strong involvement network of young people.

As an expert practitioner you will provide continuing teaching and coaching to all grades of nursing staff in their delivery of nursing care. In collaboration with the multi-disciplinary teams, you will work together to make decisions regarding the treatment of individual patients to improve service, systems, structures, staff supervision, support the leadership of the ward to achieve outstanding status.

You will be working as a Senior Nurse alongside the Ward Manager and Matron as part of the MDT inpatient team. This role includes shift pattern working across seven days as you will be providing senior nursing support to the team on shift. There will be both time 'in numbers' on the shift and supernumerary.

  • Report and investigate complaints, accidents and adverse incidents as required by the Trust in accordance with the Trust policies.
