Job summary
Kingston and Richmond CAMHS Tier 3 teams are multidisciplinary teams specialising in the provision of high-quality assessments and evidence-based treatments for children, young people and their families presenting to the service with moderate to severe mental health problems and/or Neuropsychiatric difficulties.
We are looking for a committed CAMHS Nurse who is passionate about working with children and young people with ADHD, who is interested in wider service development initiatives and eligible to undertake the Nurse prescriber training.
The role will be to provide a flexible, timely response to young people and their families who are accessing services for ADHD medication titration, GP Shared Care routine medication reviews, and psycho-social support for YP with ADHD and their families.
The role facilitates joint working with team consultants, non-medical prescribers and therapists from the tier 3 teams, local GP's, and partnership agencies. While working alongside the team medics and NMPs the post holder will undertake Nurse prescriber training.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be appointed to a band 6 development role and will be supported through a preceptorship model that includes a professional and clinical development plan for continuing professional development training. A Preceptorship NMP will be supported to acquire the knowledge, skills and experience that meet the person specifications for the post at band 7, after successfully completing the Non-Medical prescribing qualification.
This role is open to current B5/6 qualified Nurses with the following:
- Qualification as Registered Nurse with the NMC.
- Have a minimum of a first level degree.
- Minimum experience of 2 years working at a B5/6 level
- Eligible to undertake the NMP course (be a registered level 1 nurse (RN) or midwife with the NMC, have a minimum of 12 months registration as a registered level 1 nurse (RN) or midwife with the NMC, have practiced as a registered level 1 nurse (RN) or midwife full-time (or the equivalent part-time) for a year immediately preceding application to the module in the clinical field in which the applicant intends to prescribe)
- Experience of working with children and young people
- Experience of work within a multi-disciplinary team
- The ability to relate and provide accessible services to a diverse community.
- Knowledge and skills in risk management and safeguarding.

Clinical/Professional
- To work as an integral member of the Tier 3 CAMHS Community Team supporting the psychiatrists and non-medical prescribers to support young people who are prescribed medication for ADHD.
- To function as care coordinator to caseload of young people with a diagnosis of ADHD and other co-occurring conditions assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating their care needs.
- To develop and maintain therapeutic relationships with young people and their families/carers.
- To be the first port of call for children with a diagnosis of moderate to severe ADHD, who have responded positively to medication and are attending routine annual monitoring appointments.
- To provide routine ADHD medication reviews in clinic under the supervision of the ADHD prescribers
- To provide physical health checks including height, weight, blood pressure and pulse for children taking medication for ADHD.
- To consult with the young persons professional network, keeping them informed of developments and promoting multi agency collaboration. Liaison with Childrens Specialist Services, Educational services, independent sector mental health providers, counsellors and any other professional related to the childcare.
- To involve the young person, and where appropriate, their families/carers in delivering programmes of care.
- To play an active role in promoting mental health and well-being in young people and their families/carers.
- To participate in the prevention and early detection of emotional and mental health difficulties in children and adolescents seen for ADHD medication reviews and refer or signpost to appropriate services.

- To attend and actively participate in clinical meetings as part of the multidisciplinary team such as referrals meetings, case conferences, care reviews, network meetings.
