Job summary
Phoenix Ward: Phoenix Ward is a 16-bed high dependency / high support locked rehabilitation ward which has a focus on managing severe and complex mental disorders within the recovery model. The ward provides intensive support to those patients who present with severe and treatment resistant symptoms of mental illness, associated with multiple or severe co-morbid conditions, functional deficits, significant risk histories and inability to be maintained in the community. The ward has a total of 16 beds and all patients are detained under the Mental Health Act. Patients are admitted from acute psychiatric wards, forensic settings, as well as from the private sector. The expected length of stay is 6 months to a year.
Burntwood Villas: Burntwood Villas is a 15 bed, step-down service, located on the periphery of Springfield Hospital site. It is comprised of three houses (1 supported, 2 semi-supported) for males and females who have progressed through acute or forensic services. Staff strive to support residents to take ownership and autonomy of their recovery through meaningful and purposeful activities, hobbies, learning, and self-development.
Main duties of the job
We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and hard-working Clinical, Counselling or Forensic Psychologist to join the two rehabilitation multi-disciplinary teams on Phoenix Ward and at Burntwood Villas Step-Down Service, both located at Springfield Hospital. The postholder will work across both of these services into the multi-disciplinary team at each. These services are within the Complex Care service line and is part of the South London Mental Health Partnership (with SLAM and Oxleas) to share learning, expertise and innovation and drive-up quality. The complex care services within those Trusts are working closely together.
The successful applicant will provide psychological input into both MDT's as well as to the service users at Burntwood Villas and Phoenix Ward. This will include conducting psychological assessments, developing and sharing formulations and undertaking interventions with the service users with complex needs. Offering psychological consultation and training to staff will also be an integral part of the role. The post-holder will lead on the P&P provision across the complex care service line within SWLSTG Trust, and be responsible for the supervision of an assistant psychologist. The post-holder will receive clinical supervision from one of the senior psychologists based within the forensic service, and line management from within each service.
