Job summary

We are looking for a Mentalization Based Therapist to join Wandsworth Complex Needs Service, based at Trinity Building, Springfield University Hospital. We are a well established and experienced Mentalization Based Treatment and Psychotherapy Service providing treatment to people with Complex Emotional Needs in the London Borough of Wandsworth. You will be working as part of a multi-disciplinary team from a wide range of professional backgrounds including Psychotherapy, Psychology, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Art Psychotherapy and Psychiatry. We provide a range of psychological treatments which includes Mentalisation Based Treatment, Individual and Group Psychotherapy, Art Psychotherapy and Cognitive Analytical Therapy.

Wandsworth Complex Needs Service works with the principle of a 'team mind approach' and to support this we have weekly whole team clinical and development meetings to provide a space to reflect and plan together as a group the complex needs and challenges our client group presents with the overall aim of providing quality care and effective treatment. We have a specialist Young Adults Mentalization Based treatment pathway for 18-25-year-olds. This is designed to address the psychological/emotional needs of younger people entering our service in a therapeutic environment adapted to their needs.

Main duties of the job

  • You will be responsible for the delivery of MBT treatment to clients with Complex Emotional Needs The role involves working as an individual MBT Therapist, you will hold a small caseload and be responsible for the care co-ordination of the patients under your care. You will be involved in the facilitation of MBT treatment groups and MBT introduction groups as part of the intensive treatment programme on offer.
  • You will be managing a small caseload of clients held under the CPA this will involves holding care co-ordination, ongoing risk assessment and CPA case management which includes CPA reviews, collaborative crisis planning and agreeing treatment plans.
  • You will provide complex MBT assessments, develop comprehensive MBT formulations to support the planning of treatment for patients under the care of the service.
  • Depending on level of experience you will be responsible to supervise staff in the team and opportunity to develop links and relationships with services in the CEN pathway.
  • You will be involved in the development of a new Complex Emotional Needs Pathway in Wandsworth and attend monthly meetings to discuss complex clinical cases with other practitioner across the PD pathway borough including Structure Clinical Management, Psychology, DBT and Primary Care Practitioners.

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent
  • Core Mental Health Profession registered with an appropriate professional body (e.g., NMC, UKCP, HCPC)
  • Post graduate qualification that includes supervised and assessed psychotherapeutic training OR
  • Formal training in DBT (to intensive/upgrade level) or MBT (basic and certificate training) with 2 years of supervised experience

Desirable

  • Post registration qualification in group work
  • Accreditation or working towards accreditation in MBT or DBT.
