Job summary
We are looking for a new porter to join our exiting portering team at a very exciting time. We are about ready to move into our brand new hospital and this role will be key to helping everyone settle into their new surroundings.The role is to deliver food, goods, linen waste and supplies to all areas of the Trust including remote sites. The role does not include patient transfers.

Main duties of the job
The role includes delivering lunch and supper to all wards twice a day and other food deliveries throughout the week. Delivery of supplies and goods as they are received by the goods in departments. The role also includes waste collection and waste management.
The porters work in two teams and these teams have rolling shift patterns to work 37.5 hours per week over a 4 week period to provide a good work life balance. Some weeks you will work 3 days and others 7 days. There are 2 start times, 8.00am to 4.00pm and 10.00am to 6.00pm.
The ideal person for this role will be someone who works well in a team, but also able to work on their own. They would need to be committed to the Trust values and demonstrate this to our patients and colleagues alike.
This role will involve driving, manual handling and visiting other sites on a regular basis, using our vehicles, therefore a full driving licence is essential.

- To collect meal trolleys from main kitchen and deliver to wards (including ward provisions).
- Delivery of provisions to departments across the Springfield Site
- To collect previous meal delivery trolley (including food waste) from the wards and return to the main kitchen.
- To deliver goods from the Main Stores to wards and departments.
- To cover Post Room duties in the absence of the Post Room staff i.e. delivery and collection of post to wards and departments, sorting and franking of post.
- To collectunwanted/broken furniture from wards and departments on the Springfield and take to the waste compoundor to the Furniture Store for reuse.
- To undertake minor furniture moves as required. This may involve travelling to other sites.
- To cover pharmacy delivery duties as required.
- To deliver clean linen and collect dirty linen from wards.
- To undertake linen top-up duties when required.
- To collect domestic waste from external bins and remove to the on-site compactor for onward disposal.
- To ensure Clinical Waste bins are in situ across the site, correctly labelled and to take full bins to the compound for onward disposal.
- To assist in the induction of new porters.
- To report any concerns to the Charge hand Porter.
- To make regular checks of portering vehicles e.g. lights, tyres, etc and report any defects/concerns to the Charge hand Porter.
