Job summary
South West London and St George's Mental Health NHS Trust is welcoming enthusiastic individuals for the role of Registered Mental Health Nurse in our Eating Disorder Inpatient services.
Based at Springfield University Hospital, Avalon ward is 18 bedded unit for adults suffering with moderate to severe eating disorders, often at a very low weight and there is a high level of co-morbidity with conditions. We are a recovery focused team, and our aim is to discharge our patients' safely.
Also based at Springfield University Hospital, Wisteria Ward is a 12 bedded national inpatient eating disorders unit for children and adolescents aged between 11 and 18. The ward also recently moved into a newly refurbished building, which includes beautiful artwork from our young people. Wisteria Ward as an inpatient CAMHS eating disorders unit provides the following treatment and aims to keep admission length less than 12 weeks focusing on weight restoration, supportive psychological therapies, individualised care plans, key nurse session, medical monitoring, communication and support for parents and family interventions.
Wisteria ward includes the Wisteria Annexe which is an individualised healthcare provision for one young person. The annexe functions as its own ward but is housed within Wisteria ward. This individualised healthcare provision is an innovative unique opportunity to be involved in.
Main duties of the job
As a Registered Nurse you provide direct personal care to patients, without direct supervision, and co-ordinate the care given by colleagues.
The role includes leading the delivery of comprehensive service user assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of person-centered care in a collaborative way. The post holder will co-ordinate a first-class service that includes assessment and monitoring of physical health, maintaining service users' rights, supervising junior staff and students, working collaboratively with the Multi-Disciplinary Team and maintaining a safe and therapeutic working environment and accurate records.
- Leading on and undertaking activities to ensure that the fundamentals of care are met - nutrition, hydration, hygiene, comfort, emotional and social support.
- Coordinating and evaluating collaborative patient-centered care; getting feedback and improving plans with the multi-disciplinary team (MDT).
- Providing accurate information about care in an accessible format to patients and their relatives / carers.
- Liaising and working positively with members of the multi- disciplinary team and partner organisations.
- Administering, and monitoring the side-effects of, medication; monitoring service user compliance.

Springfield University Hospital, Tooting
Our largest, 19-ward site is in Springfield Village, created following our £150m investment into two new world class mental health facilities. A 32-acre public park, shops and cafes are coming soon. Close to shops, cafes and Tooting Bec on the Northern Line plus Earlsfield and Tooting rail stations and bus routes.
